Area plant sales starting to crop up
As COVID restrictions ease up, in-person area plant sales are cropping up throughout the region, just in time for spring planting. Here are two that I know about:
Saturday, May 7—The Uwchlan Garden Club is holding their annual Plant Sale on Saturday, May 7, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the 1756 Uwchlan Meeting House, 5 N. Village Ave., in Lionville (Exton, if using GPS). The event will be held rain or shine and will feature container gardens, garden crafts, plants “From Our Gardens to Yours,” herb and vegetable plants, something for butterflies and bees, and more. If you have questions, please send email to uwchlangardenclub@ gmail.com.
Thursday, May 12—The Philadelphia Unit of The Herb Society of America is holding its 83rd Annual Herb Sale on Thursday, May 12, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the meadow at Historic Yellow Springs, 1685 Art School Road, Chester Springs. The sale takes place rain or shine.
A wide variety of culinary and fragrant herbs, and many rare and unusual scented geraniums and salvias will be featured. In addition, a “Made by Members” boutique will highlight herbal specialties including chutneys, jams, mustards, notecards, essential oil moisturizers, and a few surprises.
An Herbal Box Brunch prepared by Cricket Corner Café is available, by reservation only. Orders are taken from the group’s website; visit www. hsaphiladelphia.org to make your selection. For additional information visit the website or contact: algayl@verizon.net or 610-585-6560. Send your brunch order and check — which must be received by May 1 — to: HSA Philadelphia Unit, P.O. Box 273, Chester Springs, PA 19425.
Note: Sales of plants and items from the boutique are by cash or check only. Also, to make shopping easier, consider bringing a tote — or even a garden cart or child’s toy wagon — to carry your selections.
