PW rallies to beat Upper Dublin in 8

PW 13, UPPER DUBLIN 9 (8) »

Plymouth Whitemarsh rallied from 9-4 down after four innings to win its seventh straight Friday, scoring three in the top of the seventh to tie the SOL Liberty contest with freshman Rian Reed’s inside-the park grand slam in the eighth giving PW the victory.

Reed was 3-for-6 with six RBIs and two runs scored also earning the pitching win for the Colonials (8-3, 8-2 division), throwing four scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out five

PW’s Lauren Kane hit two home runs — a leadoff blast in the third and a two-run shot in the fourth — and finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored while Sam Skivo was 4-for-5 with a double, an RBI and scored three runs. Julie Price went 2-for-5 with a double, RBI and two runs scored, Marissa Perez was 2-for-4 with an RBI while Caelin Kosvitch went 2-for-6 with an RBI and a run scored.

Upper Dublin’s Chloe Foster connected on a tworun home run as the Cardinals (4-8, 4-6) took a 5-0 lead in the top of the first. Madden Reilly was 3-for-5 with an RBI, Katelyn Gamburg went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Kaitlyn Zacharia was 2-for-5 and scored twice.

Kane’s two-run homer in the top of the fourth had PW down 6-4 but the Cardinals plated three in the bottom of the inning to go up five.

The Colonials scored a run in both the fifth and sixth frames then in the top of the seventh pulled even 9-9 on a Kosvitch RBI single and Reed’s bases-loaded, two-RBI double.

PENNRIDGE 9, ABINGTON 4 »

Pennridge scored four runs in the top of the first inning – the first three on Reagan Bauman’s home run – then took a 7-1 lead with three in the third as the Rams’ snapped a four-game losing streak with an SOL nonconfere­nce victory.

Catelyn Thrush went 4-for-5 with a double and a run scored, Bauman was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored while Olivia Crognale finished 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and scored twice for Pennridge (5-7, 3-7 SOL Colonial).

DOCK 15, PLUMSTEAD CHRISTIAN 0 » Dock scored six runs in the first inning and coasted to the win on Friday. Trinity Landis had two hits and Katherine Kardos doubled for the Pioneers, while Maggie Dowell pitched 2.2 innings with six strikeouts.

NORTH PENN 16, COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 1 (5) » Bri Wilmot went 3-for-3 with five RBI’s, two runs and a home run on Thursday, leading into the Knights’ showdown with Pennsbury on Friday.

Julia Shearer allowed just one hit in her three innings of work and then Bella Nunn finished it off.

Annabelle Smink went 2-for-3 with three runs scored, an RBI and a walk for NP.

Julia Shearer went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, and Hannah Cohen went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, three RBI’s, a double and a home run.

Reyna Doherty (2-for4) and Lexi Nyce (1-for-1, 3 RBI, home run) also had big days at the plate for the Knights.

Baseball

DOCK 35, CHURCH FARM 0 »

Josh Mascio had three hits and four runs scored including a steal of home in Dock’s win at Church Farm on Friday. Matt Miles collected five RBI’s. Bryan Dorneman also had five RBI’S while striking out four on the mound. Zack Frederick posted six strikeouts in picking up the win.

LA SALLE 4, FATHER JUDGE 3 (10) » Brian Baquero gave La Salle a walk-off PCL win as his one-out single in the bottom of the 10th scored Tahir Parker from second base and lifted the Explorers over Father Judge.

Parker and Tim Schuler both went 2-for-4 with a run scored, Matt Gannon was 2-for-4 with an RBI while Baquero collected two RBIs for La Salle (8-4, 6-2 league), which won their fifth in a row.

The Explorers took a 3-0 lead after a Baquero RBI groundout in the third, Frank Provenzano’s RBI sacrifice fly in the fourth and Gannon’s RBI single in the fifth.

A RBI single by Judge’s Sean Moore, who finished 2-for-3, made it 3-1 in the top of the sixth with the Crusaders getting two runs in the seventh on a basesloade­d double play and error to force extras.

NORTH PENN 7, CB WEST 1 »

Jack Picozzi struck out nine in a complete-game win, Brian Neal and Johnny Carson both went 2-for-4 and North Penn snapped a twogame skid with an SOL Colonial win.

Carson also had an RBI and run scored, Quinn Marett collected two RBIs while Ben Farley and Justin Egner each scored twice for the Knights (6-5, 4-5 division).On the mound, Picozzi allowed one earned run on seven hits and no walks.

Cole Fehrman finished 2-for-3 with an RBI — driving in the Bucks’ lone run with a single in the bottom of the seventh. Aidan Quinn went 2-for-4.

North Penn scored the game’s first three runs in the top of the third on a Ben Farley RBI double and a two-RBI double by Marett.

Picozzi’s RBI single in the sixth made it 4-0 with the Knights’ tacking on three more in the top of the seventh – two scoring due to an error on Farley’s fly ball with a Carson RBI single putting NP up 7-0.

QUAKERTOWN 4, WISSAHICKO­N 0 » The SOL Liberty contest went five scoreless innings before Quakertown struck for two in the sixth then doubled its lead in the seventh as the Panthers shut out Wissahicko­n for a third straight win.

Nate DeVincent had a double for the Trojans (66, 6-4 division), who had their two-game win streak halted.

Dan Qualteria was 2-for-3 while Cooper Natisin and Chris Parrillo combined on the shutout for Quakertown (7-4-1, 7-2-1). Natisin went 6 2/3 innings, allowed six hits, walked two and struck out six. Parrillo came in with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the seventh and got a groundout to seal the win.

OWEN J. ROBERTS 11, METHACTON 1 (6) » Owen J. Roberts scored three runs in the top of the first, added three more to go up 6-0 in the third then plated five in the sixth to claim a PAC Liberty win.

Tyler Weil-Kaspar drove in Methacton’s lone run with an RBI double in the bottom of the third.

PHOENIXVIL­LE 7, PJP II 5 » Phoenixvil­le’s Drew Kingsbury hit a grand slam in the top of the third while the Phantoms added three more in the fifth to take a 7-1 lead before holding off Pope John Paul II late for a PAC Frontier win.

Chase Frantz was 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored for PJP II. Brendan Kenning went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored while Mike Greco had two RBIs

The Golden Panthers scored three in the sixth to pull within 7-4. In the bottom of the seventh, Kenning’s two-out RBI single cut the margin to two. Greco followed with a base hit to load the bases but the next batter struck out.

Kingsburg was 2-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Nico Nattle went 2-for-3 with an RBI while Avery Schwartz had two RBIs and pitched five innings to earn the win, allowing one run — earned — on two hits, walked four and struck out nine.

Girls Lacrosse

UPPER DUBLIN 17, HAVERFORD SCHOOL 12 » Aditi Foster scored seven goals and added two assists as the Cardinals (7-3) picked up the nonconfere­nce win on Saturday. Paige Dinkel and Tess Reardon each delivered three goals, while Allie Gay and Ella Lyon had two goals apiece. Dara Fishman made seven saves in net for Upper Dublin.

PENNSBURY 14, PW 10 » Plymouth Whitemarsh’s Bri Austin scored a game-high four goals but Pennsbury held off the Colonials in the second half to win the SOL nonceferen­ce matchup.

Rhianna Gooneratne and Meghan Wendler both had two goals while Fiona Gooneratne collected two assists for PW (6-5, 5-2 SOL American), who dropped their fourth straight. Sophia Gartland had a goal and an assist, Olivia Reilly added a goal and goalie Aniya Bond made 10 saves. SPRING-FORD 18, NORRISTOWN 6 » Ayana Lyons led Norristown with three goals while goalkeeper Zaki Coleman made nine saves for the Eagles in the PAC loss. GERMANTOWN ACADEMY 25, BALDWIN SCHOOL 14 » Heidi Cross, Mia Raven and Lucia Smigiel all scored five goals each to power the Patriots on Friday.

Emma Goodwin, Sydney Wanner and Maggie Borek each had three goals as well, and Cate Luviano chipped in with a goal.

Cross, Raven, Goodwin and Wanner each had two assists.

Sadie Hess made 12 saves in net to help secure the win.

Boys Lacrosse

DELCO CHRISTIAN 14, PENNRIDGE 3 » The Rams fell behind 5-0 after one quarter and couldn’t recover on Saturday. Frankie Fanelli scored two goals for Pennridge, while Ryan Carichkhof­f added a goal and an assist. Kieran Banks had 14 saves in net for the Rams.

Boys Tennis

DISTRICT 1 SINGLES CHAMPIONSH­IPS » Faith Christian’s Toby Frantz claimed the District 1-2A singles championsh­ip by beating Lower Moreland’s John Heller in three sets in the final 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 at the Springfiel­d YMCA.

In the semifinals, Frantz, who is the lone 2A player to advance to the PIAA tournament, beat Pope John Paul II’s Aiden McCarvel 6-0, 6-1 while Heller defeated Paul Pabalan of Holy Ghost Prep 6-1, 6-2.

In Class 3A, Central Bucks West’s Alex Myron is still alive for District 1’s fifth and final state bid after reaching the quarterfin­als, where he lost to Lower Merion’s Brian Yi 6-0, 6-0. Myron, who had a first-round bye, topped Great Valley’s Krish Mediratta 6-3, 6-1 in the second round.

Myron faces Radnor’s Ariston Fonesca in the fifthplace semis at 10 a.m. Saturday back at Springfiel­d YMCA.

The top four seeds all advanced to the semifinals with Mikkel Zinder and Alex Sterin of Council Rock South alongwith Justin and Brian Yi of Lower Merion all advancing without dropping a set.
