EAGLES VS. CHIEFS HISTORY
Though the Eagles and Chiefs have been together in the NFL since the 1970merger, they barely have passed each other along the way. They have, though, met nine times – and for the first time are about to meet in the postseason.
Here is the series history:
1972
• Eagles 21, Chiefs 20, Oct. 22: In Arrowhead Stadium, Pete Liske threw two first-half touchdown passes to Harold Jackson and another to Ben Hawkins, and Tom Dempsey was a perfect 3-for-3on placements before the Chiefs scored the final 20points. Len Dawson flipped a 20yard fourth-quarter TD pass to Willie Frazier to pull Kansas City within 21-19, but two-point conversions were not allowed in the NFL until 1994. The Eagles, who would finish 2-11-1, improved to 1-5.
1992
• Chiefs 24, Eagles 17, Oct. 11: Tormenting the Eagles with repeated play-action passes at Arrowhead, Dave Krieg threw for 272yards, including TD tosses of 43, 24and 74yards, as the Eagles dipped to 4-1. Randall Cunningham, who was sacked six times, led an attempted comeback with two fourth-quarter touchdown passes to Pat Beach.
1998
• Chiefs 24, Eagles 21, Sept. 27: Donnell Bennett rushed for two fourth-quarter scores to stake Kansas City to a 10-point lead at the Vet. Duce Staley’s third touchdown of the game – a 17-yard reception from Rodney Peete – was not enough with 1:09left as the Eagles dropped to 0-4.
2001
• Eagles 23, Chiefs 10, Nov. 29: Donovan McNabb threw for 292yards and touchdown passes to Staley and Tony Stewart in Arrowhead as the Eagles defeated Dick Vermeil’s team to improve to 7-4. David Akers kicked three field goals.
2005
• Eagles 37, Chiefs 31, Oct. 2: The Chiefs roared to a 17-0lead in Arrowhead, before Sheldon Brown began a rally with a 40-yard pick-six. McNabb threw touchdown passes to Terrell Owens, Mike Bartrum and L.J. Smith along with a two-point conversion pass to Brian Westbrook. Todd France kicked three Eagles field goals.
2009
• Eagles 34, Chiefs 14, Sept. 27: Kevin Kolb went 24-for-34for 327 passing yards, including scoring passes to DeSean Jackson and Brent Celek at the Linc. The Eagles outgained the Chiefs, 420-196, and improved to 2-1.
2013
• Chiefs 26, Eagles 16, Sept. 19: A 41-yard LeSean McCoy touchdown burst drew the Eagles within 23-16, but Chip Kelly’s offense was held scoreless for the final 11:26at the Linc. Jason Avant caught a 22-yard first-quarter touchdown pass from Michael Vick, who completed just 13of 30passes.
2017
• Chiefs 27, Eagles 20, Sept. 17: Nelson Agholor’s nine-yard TD reception from Carson Wentz with nine seconds left in K.C, was too late and the Eagles fell to 1-1before winning their next nine on their way to the Super Bowl. Though sacked six times, Wentz passed for 333yards, including a 16-yard, third-quarter scoring strike to Alshon Jeffery.
2021
• Chiefs 42, Eagles 30, Oct. 3: At the Linc, Patrick Mahomes threw five touchdown passes, including three to Tyreke Hill, two in the fourth quarter. Jalen Hurts threw for 387 yards, ran for 47and was not intercepted, but the Eagles slid to 1-3in Nick Sirianni’s first season as head coach.
