County Commission­ers announce new Health, Human Services director

Williams to oversee county’s largest

- Department

The Montgomery County Commission­ers have announced the appointmen­t of Dr. Tamra Williams as director of the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services after conducting a national search.

Williams will lead a staff of over 500 employees as head of the county’s largest department.

“I am pleased to welcome Dr. Williams to the county and I look forward to working with her to oversee programs and services helping some of our most vulnerable residents,” said Kenneth E. Lawrence Jr., chair of the Montgomery County Board of Commission­ers. “Her practical training and experience have already been a valuable asset to our senior leadership team.”

Williams comes to Montgomery County after serving as the Chief Clinical Officer for Community Behavioral Health (CBH), a behavioral health managed care organizati­on where she oversaw key initiative­s related to population health and health equity, integrated and complex care, a Member Advisory Committee, and the Evidence-based Practice & Innovation Center.

As the director of the Montgomery

County Department of Health and Human Services, Williams oversees county offices of public health; children and youth; drug and alcohol; the County’s Early Learning Resource Center; Veterans affairs; senior services; managed care solutions; housing and community developmen­t; mental health, developmen­tal disabiliti­es, and early interventi­on; community connection­s; and strategy management.

Williams is a trained clinical psychologi­st and a resultsdri­ven public service and behavioral healthcare executive with over 15 years leadership experience in managed care, county government, and nonprofit settings. She has dedicated her career to public service and making access to quality health and wellness services a priority so that individual­s can flourish. With a doctoral degree in psychology, her special expertise includes managed care operations and large-scale program design and implementa­tion requiring cross agency/ department­al collaborat­ion.

Williams obtained her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of South Florida with a minor in public health policy and management and completed her pre-doctoral training at Yale University’s School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry, and postdoctor­al training in the Division of Law & Psychiatry.
