NORRISTOWN >> Using the slogan “Dosebusters,” Montgomery County authorities will collect unwanted prescription and over-thecounter medications during a Drug Take Back Day in April.

Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele and Upper Dublin Township Police Chief Fran Wheatley, current president of the Montgomery County Police Chiefs Association, announced the spring event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 22.

Typically, approximately 40 police departments serve as drop-off sites for the event, including several grocery store locations that will be staffed by police officers.

The complete list of dropoff locations will be released closer to the event’s date and also will be listed on the district attorney’s website at www.montgomerycountypa.org/DA .

During the one-day event, the sites, staffed by police officers, will accept prescription and over-thecounter tablets and capsules, inhalers, creams and ointments, nasal sprays, pet medications and vaping products.

Officials said needles, liquid medications and intravenous injectable solutions will not be accepted.

The district attorney’s office typically holds drug take back days twice a year, in April and October.

Since the Drug Take Back program began in 2010, more than 108,000 pounds of medicines have been collected and then safely disposed.

Steele previously said ridding medicine cabinets of unwanted medications is an important step for the safety of all households. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends and often come from the home medicine cabinet, officials said.

If residents can’t attend the event, they can still dispose of their unwanted medications throughout the year at more than 50 permanent prescription drug disposal boxes, most of which are located at police departments.

Some of those boxes are sponsored by the Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association and others are sponsored by Pennsylvania American Water in an effort to help keep the water supply safe.
