Men’s basketball Manjon earns Big West Player of the Week award

Thanks to ESPN3’s broadcast of UC Davis’ road games at Long Beach State and Cal State Northridge, a national audience watched the Aggies sweep last week’s road trip. Basketball fans also watched freshman point guard Ezra Manjon lead UC Davis’ offense, team-high point totals each game, and frustrate both opponents with his defense, which led to his inaugural Big West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week Award, as announced by league officials.

Manjon is the first freshman of the season to earn this honor from the Big West Conference.

This was the first of two awards received on Monday as College Sports Madness, a subsidiary of USA Today, also named him its Big West Player of the Week.

The Brentwood native led all Aggies with 19 and 16 points respectively when his team faced LBSU and CSUN. The first total is his second-highest of the season, the latter includes a career-high three baskets from three.

For the week, Manjon averaged a team-high 17.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game, shot 50 percent overall, 83 percent from three and 86 percent at the line.
