Vanden High School boys basketball team handles Rodriguez

The Vanden High School boys basketball team beat Rodriguez 80-69 on Thursday in Monticello Empire League play.

The Vikings (15-6, 3-1) led 38-28 at halftime en route to the win. With the victory, Vanden stayed in a first-place tie for first place with Will C. Wood, which beat Vacaville on the road.

Teiano Hardee had 20 points to lead Vanden. I’saac Montgomery had 19, Takai Emerson-Hardy added 14, while Agjanti Miller chipped in 12 and Jacques Jones had 11.

The Mustangs dropped to 11-11 overall, 2-2 in league play.

Vanden takes on Sacramento High in the Crush in the Valley event at Solano College at 4 p.m. on Saturday. The Vikings are then back in MEL play on Tuesday at Armijo.

Rodriguez hosts Vacaville on Tuesday.

Frosh basketball

VACAVILLE 55, WOOD 45 >> The Vacaville High freshman boys basketball team beat Wood 55-45 on Thursday in MEL play.

Jaydon Galeano had 19 points and five steals, and Davin Porter had 18 points and seven boards for the Bulldogs.

Vacaville’s next game is Friday at Hiram Johnson High.

Middle school girls basketball

VACA PENA 20, VACA CHRISTIAN 8 >> The Vaca Pena girls basketball team rolled to a 20-8 victory on the road against Vacaville Christian on Thursday.

Natalia Sanchez paced the Panthers with 11 points. Tianna Palmer, Lucia Alexander, Andrea Howard, Syvannah Reed and Alisha Daniels also scored.

Solae Rainey grabbed seven rebounds, followed by Daniels and Sanchez with six apiece, and Palmer, Alexander, Reed and Ambrea Rojas with four apiece. Palmer recorded four steals, while Alexander added three.

Vaca Pena (5-4, 6-7 overall) will finish the regular season at home against Kairos on Tuesday before the NSAL tournament next Thursday.

Middle school boys basketball

VACA PENA 56, VACA CHRISTIAN 32 >> The Vaca Pena boys basketball team beat Vacaville Christian 56-32 on Thursday.

Jayden Hamilton-Holland had 15 points, Cory Edwards had 10, Josiah Jones had eight and Jemeir Buckner helped out with six points.

The last game of the season is Tuesday night at home against Kairos.
