Vaca Chamber announces its endorsements for 2020 election
The Vacaville Chamber of Commerce board of directors has announced its 2020 election endorsements of candidates, state propositions and city measures that align with local business priorities.
For Vacaville City Council:
• District 1 — Shawn McMahon, retired Air Force veteran and a Vacaville Parks and Recreation commissioner.
• District 3 — Amber Robitaille,
community activist.
• District 5 — Sherie Mahlberg, a Vacaville Unified trustee, business owner and therapist.
• District 6 — Thomas Randall, a business owner.
For Vacaville Unified School District governing board:
• Area 6 — Tracee Stacy, an educator and publisher.
• Area 7 — George Burton Jr., parent and businessman.
Solano County Office of Education governing board:
• District 2 — Amy Sharp, incumbent.
Statewide propositions:
• 15 — Opposes this proposition, also known as the Schools and Communities First initiative, a citizeninitiated proposition that would create a split roll property tax system and spend the revenue increase on education and other public services.
• 21 — Opposes this proposition, proposed and passed in 2000. It increased a variety of criminal penalties for crimes committed by youth and sent many youth offenders into the adult criminal justice system.
• 22 — Supports this proposition, which seeks to grant app-based transportation and delivery companies a special exception to AB 5 by classifying their drivers as “independent contractors,” exempting employers, such as Uber and Lyft, from providing benefits to certain drivers.
A City of Vacaville Measure:
• V — Opposes this measure, a cannabis business tax.
Election Day is Nov. 3.
