Vaca Chamber announces its endorsemen­ts for 2020 election

The Vacaville Chamber of Commerce board of directors has announced its 2020 election endorsemen­ts of candidates, state propositio­ns and city measures that align with local business priorities.

For Vacaville City Council:

• District 1 — Shawn McMahon, retired Air Force veteran and a Vacaville Parks and Recreation commission­er.

• District 3 — Amber Robitaille,

community activist.

• District 5 — Sherie Mahlberg, a Vacaville Unified trustee, business owner and therapist.

• District 6 — Thomas Randall, a business owner.

For Vacaville Unified School District governing board:

• Area 6 — Tracee Stacy, an educator and publisher.

• Area 7 — George Burton Jr., parent and businessma­n.

Solano County Office of Education governing board:

• District 2 — Amy Sharp, incumbent.

Statewide propositio­ns:

• 15 — Opposes this propositio­n, also known as the Schools and Communitie­s First initiative, a citizenini­tiated propositio­n that would create a split roll property tax system and spend the revenue increase on education and other public services.

• 21 — Opposes this propositio­n, proposed and passed in 2000. It increased a variety of criminal penalties for crimes committed by youth and sent many youth offenders into the adult criminal justice system.

• 22 — Supports this propositio­n, which seeks to grant app-based transporta­tion and delivery companies a special exception to AB 5 by classifyin­g their drivers as “independen­t contractor­s,” exempting employers, such as Uber and Lyft, from providing benefits to certain drivers.

A City of Vacaville Measure:

• V — Opposes this measure, a cannabis business tax.

Election Day is Nov. 3.
