Longtime Solano resident named new local CHP commander
A longtime resident of Solano County has been named commander of the area’s California Highway Patrol office.
Capt. Steve West has been chosen for the position, CHP Chief Chris Costigan wrote in a news release. He takes the reins of Mark Headrick, who was recently selected to command the CHP’s Air Operations Section in Sacramento.
“As a resident of Solano County for over 40 years, I’m honored to represent the CHP in this beloved county,” West wrote in a statement. “I’m proud to work with such professional uniformed and nonuniformed staff that work tirelessly to improve public safety every day. As public servants, we work for you, and I look forward to building upon our strong community relationships, unified as we make this county the greatest place to live, travel, and work.”
West has worked for the CHP since 1999 where he began his career with the
Marin County office. He has also worked at the Castro Valley and Solano Area offices as well as the Cordelia Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility (CVEF), which he was named commander of in 2017. A year later, he was promoted to Captain of the Professional Training Section at t he CHP Headquarters in Sacramento. West is currently a chief master sergeant in the Reserves for the Headquarters Air Force Staff at the Pentagon. He has served in the military for 31 years and has a bachelor’s in criminal justice from Chapman University and a master’s in management from American Military University.
The Solano Area CHP is responsible for all unincorporated roadways and freeways in the county.
