Brandon Barron, 27 of Elmira taken into custody after hiding in backyard
Vacaville police arrested a 27-year- old Elmira resident Wednesday after he ran from the scene of a hitand-run crash on Interstate 80 near Davis Street and hid from officers in the backyard of a home before being taken into custody.
According to Vacaville police Lt. David Kellis, shortly before 4 p.m., Brandon Barron, 27 was involved in a hit-and-run crash with a California Highway Patrol officer on the freeway and fled from the scene on foot.
Barron, according to Kellis was wanted on five warrants, at least one of which was for a felony.
“We had witnesses who saw him take off from the hit-and-run toward Winco,” Kellis said.
Using the store’s security cameras, officers were able to identify the suspect and according to Kellis, officers attempted to contact Barron inside the supermarket but he fled through a rear door.
Barron was spotted a short time later by a Vacaville motorcycle officer along the bike path behind the store. Kellis said that the suspect saw the officer and jumped the fence in the backyard of a home in the 800 block of Kingman Drive.
“We spotted him on the cameras from Winco, went to contact him and he took off running and started jumping fences,” Kellis said.
Officers from the Vacaville and CHP flooded the neighborhood surrounding Winco Foods, and with the aid of a CHP helicopter, he was taken into custody after being bit by a police K9.
Barron was transported to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center to be treated for his injuries before being transported to Solano County Jail.
