Thistle announces large-scale hiring push

Health-minded meal kit company has several positions available throughout West Coast, including at Vacaville packaging center

As Thistle continues to grow, the San Francisco-based organic meal kit company is seeking to bring more members onto its team in locations throughout the Bay Area and West Coast, including a position as the vice president of operations at the Vacaville packaging center.

Thistle’s large-scale hiring push includes jobs that can be done remotely from anywhere, the Solano Economic Development Corporation wrote in a news release.

Thistle was founded in 2014 by husband and wife team Ashwin Cheriyan and Shiri Avnery. It takes the concept of meal kits — a collection of ingredients delivered to a person and incorporated into a meal — and provides only healthy ingredients that are organic and locally sourced whenever possible. The kits consist of plant-based meals, juices and snacks and are delivered to customers in California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Nevada, Utah and Idaho.

In 2020, Thistle opened a packaging center on Eubanks Drive, around the same time people began ordering meal kits as an alternative to going to grocery stores during the pandemic. During this year, Solano EDC officials wrote, the company saw “substantially increased demand,” and is now seeking to expand its employee base to meet that demand.

Among the positions available in Vacaville are the vice president of operations, truck driver, cook, dishwasher, entry-level production supervisor, prep cook, production assistant, custodian, material handler, receiving and inventory specialist, quality assurance field operator and warehouse manager.

“We are excited to see such positive growth at Thistle during a time that has challenged so many industries,” Bob Burris, president and CEO of Solano EDC, said in a statement. “Thistle’s success has contributed to the stability of the region, and their continued growth means more quality jobs will be available in the area.

“Thistle’s leadership have been committed since the beginning to being a community partner, and we saw that last year as they prepared food for our first responders. They are an example of the type of company that makes Solano a prime location for businesses and their employees — an innovative producer who cares about the community.”
