Travis Unified campuses reopen for in-person learning
Students will start on campus one day a week, move to two days a week after spring break
Travis Unified School District welcomed its first round of students back for in-person learning Friday, officials announced in a news release.
Following the Travis school board’s approval of a hybrid reopening model at its March 9 meeting, the first cohort of students returned to campus Friday.
Under this model, small groups of students will attend school on campus one day a week until spring break begins Friday. When students return on April 12, that number will be bumped up to two days a week while learning from home the other three days. For families who choose to remain in distance learning, that will still be an option as well.
“Travis Unified is thrilled to welcome our students, teachers, and support staff back to campuses,” TUSD Superintendent Pam Conklin said in a statement. “Learning continues and we remain committed to safety and a comprehensive educational experience for all.”
Additionally, masks are required for everyone on campus, social distancing measures are in place, hand washing and sanitizing stations have been set up throughout all campuses, staff and students are required to complete self-wellness checks each morning, classroom ventilation and air purifiers have been upgraded and all sites have “isolation locations” for anyone showing symptoms, officials wrote.
“The Board would like to thank families, staff, and students for their continued support,” Board President Janet Jackson Forbes said in a statement. “We are of the firm belief that by working together, we have and will continue to navigate successfully through the consequences of this pandemic.”
