Vanden High girls hoops defeats Vacaville at home

The Vanden High girls basketball team (15-3, 6-0) remained undefeated in the Monticello Empire League, when it defeated the Vacaville Bulldogs (610, 1-4) at home, 80-21.

The Vikings were led in scoring by senior Kiari Roberts with 24 points. Junior Alyssa Jackson scored 16, senior Jiana Creswell netted 13 and freshman Calonni Holloway scored eight.

The Bulldogs were led in scoring by junior Brynlie Headrick, who scored six points and grabbed eight rebounds. Sophomore Rylie Johnson had five points.

Vikings co-head coach Jake Johnson III was content with the effort in setting the tone his program showed out there.

“I’m just glad they are trying to get better every game, no matter who the opponent is,” Johnson III said.

The Vikings aim to continue their winning ways when the remain at home, hosting the Armijo Royals (3-15, 0-4) next Tuesday, tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Bulldogs look to bounce back in some more MEL play, when they remain on the road next Tuesday, taking on the Fairfield

Falcons (3-10, 0-5), with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m. WILL C. WOOD 62, FAIRFIELD 15 >> The Will C. Wood girls basketball team (11-6, 4-2) were victorious in this Monticello Empire League matchup in front of a home crowd, defeating the Fairfield Falcons (3-10, 0-5) 62-15.

Junior Athena Brombacher led all scorers for the Wildcats with 21, Kailei Gomez netted 16 and sophomore Lucia Alexander made eight points.

After losing twice earlier in the week, Wildcats head coach Matthew Lowry was proud of his program for bouncing back.

“We got back to what works the most for us, which was working on the defensive side,” Lowry said. “It’s time for us to regroup and prepare for this home stretch to make the playoffs.”

In a non-league conference game this Saturday, the Wildcats take on the Antelope Titans (12-4), as tipoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

Girls Soccer VACAVILLE 0, RODRIGUEZ 0 >>

In front of their home crowd, the Vacaville High Bulldogs (12-6-1) fought to a 0-0 draw against the Rodriguez Mustangs (6-32, 6-0-2) as neither team found the back of the net.

The Bulldogs’ record now stands at 5-1-1 in Monticello Empire League play. Bulldogs head coach Jenn Eggley was proud of their efforts.

“I’m beyond impressed that my girls balled out yesterday, they played the best soccer I’ve seen in four years,” Eggley said.

The Bulldogs are set to make-up their game from over a week ago this Saturday on the road against the Will C. Wood Wildcats (5-42, 3-2-1), kick-off is scheduled for 10 a.m.

VANDEN 8, FAIRFIELD 0 >> The Vanden High girls soccer team (6-4-2, 4-2-2) returned from the road victorious after shelling the Fairfield Falcons (2-10-1, 1-7) in a shutout, 8-0.

The Vikings were led in scoring by Sophia Alessandra-Montano who scored four goals and two assists. Seniors Ava Cervantes, Gian Ayson, junior Breanna Davis and sophomore Delanee Sucin all found the back of the net once.

“We started off a little slow and a little sluggish but once we got it going it was pretty unstoppabl­e,” Vikings head coach Anna Chavez said.

The Vikings aim to continue their winning ways when they return to the road on Tuesday to take on the Will C. Wood Wildcats (6-4-2, 4-2-1), kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. WILL C. WOOD 4, ARMIJO 0 >> In front of their home crowd in this Monticello Empire League matchup, the Will C. Wood Wildcats girls soccer team (6-4-2, 4-2-1) shut out the Armijo Royals (1-15,0-8), 4-0.

Senior Yaritza Thompson led all Wildcat scorers with two goals, sophomore Emily Kopf and freshman Brehana Dixon netted a goal apiece.

Set to make up a game this Saturday from over a week ago, the Wildcats are hosting the Vacaville Bulldogs (12-6-1, 5-5-1)

Boys Soccer LINDEN 7, VACAVILLE CHRISTIAN 1 >>

In another Sierra Delta League matchup, the Vacaville Christian Falcons couldn’t fend off the Linden Lions (9-9-1) at home, 7-1.

The Lions improved to 7-3-1 in league play, where the Falcons dropped to 0-11.

The Falcons return to the road next Tuesday, when they take on the Highlands Scots (3-6, 3-4), kick-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
