There is no shortage of places to buy tacos in Vacaville, and Visit Vacaville highlights 11 of them through a summer promotion, where people can win prizes by purchasing tacos at participating restaurants.

The Taco Trail kicks off Thursday — Cinco de Mayo — and continues through the end of summer.

Melyssa Reeves, president and CEO of Visit Vacaville, said the company that has worked with Visit Vacaville on the Vacaville Savings Pass — a mobile passport that provides discounts at local businesses — had done similar Taco Trails throughout the country.

“We have a number of great Mexican restaurants in town, so it seemed like an easy fit for our city,” she said.

Reeves said all restaurants in town that serve tacos were invited to participate, and 11 accepted the offer: Buckhorn BBQ & Grill; California Burrito (both the East Monte Vista Avenue and Peabody Road locations); El Caracol; Favela's Mexican Grill; Los Reyes; Murillo's; Tacos Jalisco; The Brass Tap; and Villa Corona (both the East Monte Vista and Peabody location).

People can go to Visitvacaville.com/vacaville-tacotrail/ to download the Vacaville TacoTrail digital pass.

At participating locations, they can order from the special trail menu and receive discounts on certain items such as a dollar amount off a minimum purchase, specially priced meals and deals to buy two tacos and get a third free.

Offers will vary by location.

And if getting to enjoy tacos were not enough, patrons will have the opportunity to win prizes. The first 12 people to eat at six participating eateries will win a “halfway prize”: a taco plushie. The first person to eat at all 11 locations will win a special Taco Trail Champion Trophy featuring a taco with a mariachi hat on top.

Finally, anyone after the initial championship who dines at all 11 locations will receive a commemorative Tshirt.

Reeves said the goal is to get Vacaville residents to support local restaurants.

“Any chance that they get to hopefully try a new restaurant that maybe they haven't tried before and maybe get to try some new tacos,” she said. “If it's a place that they've been before, maybe try something new.

“Really, it's just about supporting our local businesses and giving people something fun to do through the summer.”

The Taco Trail runs through Aug. 31. For more information, go to Visitvacaville.com/vacaville-tacotrail/.
