Black Friday means arts and crafts
Every year the day after Thanksgiving, millions of Americans flood the malls to take advantage of discounted purchases for Black Friday. However, it is not just the major corporations taking part — a local organization is doing its own take, one that supports local artists.
The Fairfield-Suisun City Visual Arts Association (FSVAA) hosts its second annual Black Friday Arts and Crafts Fair, featuring items created by more than 30 artists and crafters from throughout the region. Unlike Black Friday, it will not be just for a single day but the entire weekend.
Shoppers can purchase a variety of goods, including acrylic, watercolor and oil paintings as well as photography, ceramics, fused glass, drawings, jewelry, computer art, mixed media, desserts, centerpieces, books, kitchen items, wooden games and Hawaiian art.
All items will be available on two floors of the conference building at Village 360, 4949 Suisun Valley Rd.
The event will also feature a free photobooth run by Francisco Balandran, owner of Valuable Exposure Photography in the Solano Town Center. Each guest will receive free 4-by-6 portraits and the opportunity to book studio sessions through Valuable Exposure Photography for the mall's Holiday Studio. Packages will also be available for an additional cost.
The various eating and drinking establishments within Village 360 will also be busy. The Landing will have a variety of foods, The Point will have a selection of drinks, and BackRoad Vines Vineyards will provide a variety of wines.
Additionally, the Solano County Animal Rescue Team (CART) will be on site Saturday to discuss how to help homeowners prepare a Disaster Action Plan, how the organization can help animals evacuate safely in the event of a natural disaster and provide information on how to volunteer and donate. There will also be opportunities to support the local dog rescue nonprofit Play for a Stray.
The fair runs 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday at Village 360, 4949 Suisun Valley Road, Fairfield. For more information, go to Fvaa-arts.org/fsvaa-art-festivals.
