Suisun Fire gains second Advanced Life Support engine company
As of Monday, a second Advanced Life Support engine company with the Suisun City Fire Department will go live, fire officials announced Friday. This new engine company “will greatly enhance the Fire Department's ability to respond and initiate ALS patient care and will provide for an increased response of firefighters to suppress fires more effectively and safely,” officials advised in a press statement. “This is an historic moment for Suisun City as it represents another significant milestone in improving first response capabilities for fire and medical emergencies.” During the past five years, the Fire Department experienced a nearly 42% increase in calls for service. Since 2019, the City Council has addressed the need by focusing on upgrading the Fire Department from a Basic Life Support agency to an Advanced Life Support agency. In June, the City Council approved the hiring of six additional fulltime firefighters. The extra resources, officials said, will provide a minimum of four firefighters to staff two engine companies 24/7. This additional staffing includes three fire captains and three fire engineer paramedics. “The Suisun City Fire Department would like to thank our Mayor, City Council, and our citizens of Suisun City for helping us support our mission — “To ensure the protection of life and property through effective and efficient delivery of professional firefighting, fire prevention, and emergency medical services to the communities of Suisun City,” said Fire Chief Brad Lopez in the statement.
