Get the blues at Bowl-aThon

- By Nick Sestanovich nsestanovich@thereporter.com

Come March, if you are feeling blue, you can always knock down some pins and raise money for the Vacaville Neighborhood Boys & Girls Club.

The club's annual Bowl-aThon returns March 18, and to celebrate 20 years since the club was chartered in Vacaville, this year's motif will be the color of the club's logo.

Bowlers are encouraged to dress in blue, and they could even win a prize for the best dressed and most spirited attire.

Participants are urged to find creative uses of the color blue. They can dress as something abstract like the sky or ocean or perhaps look to pop culture and come dressed as a Smurf, Na'vi, Cookie Monster, Sonic the Hedgehog, Mystique, the Blue Man Group, Tobias Funke or anything else blue.

Other awards will be given for the highest score, lowest score, most strikes and most money raised.

Proceeds will go toward the Vacaville Neighborhood Boys & Girls Club, which has provided afterschool programming for local youth since its establishment in 2003.

The club recently raised more than $4.5 million to move its headquarters from the Tower Center on Holly Lane to a new 8,400 square foot clubhouse next to the William J. Carroll Government Center on Brown Street, featuring an attached 2,000-square-foot multi-sports court, nutrition center and kitchen, technology center, gaming room, meeting space and more. A groundbreaking is planned for either the summer or fall.

The Bowl-a-Thon is 11 a.m. March 18 at Bowlero Bowling Alley (formerly Stars Recreation Center), 155 Browns Valley Parkway, Individual bowlers can register for $120 and teams for $600. All ages are welcome.
