The Vacaville High girls soccer team moved one step closer to a Monticello Empire League title on Monday night with a 2-1 win over Rodriguez.

“I was impressed with our passing and movement off the ball from the kickoff,” Vacaville head coach Jen Eggley said following the win.

Although the first half ended with a 0-0 tie, Vacaville's offense did have chances as a goal off the head of Sinead Purcell from a cross from Kallie Stacey was called back for offsides.

Vacaville finally found the back of the net off a great attack lead by Senior Gracie Holbein with Alicia Rawdon there to finish it off for a 1-0 lead.

Shortly after, the Bulldogs found the net again off a pass from Katie Thomas to senior Grace Caulfield to take a 2-0 lead.

Down two goals, Rodriguez kept fighting and finally found the net off a free kick set play to make it 2-1 with less than 10 minutes left in regulation. That would become the final score.

The Vanden High girls soccer team tied Armijo 1-1 on Monday night.

The Vikings' goal came from Sophia Montano.
