Two men found guilty last month of separate crimes related to the 2017 robbery and murder of a 21-year-old Solano County man in Suisun City will face separate sentencing dates in the coming weeks, The Reporter has learned.

On Feb. 15, after a twomonth trial in Department 1, Derrick Keith Dogan Jr., 41, of Fairfield, was found guilty of second-degree murder and robbery of Armani Harper-Reed, 21. The jury also found to be true that Dogan used a gun to during the commission of the crimes.

The jury found Alfie Broussard, 41, of Elk Grove, guilty of robbery of HarperReed in what investigators believe was a marijuana deal gone wrong.

Upon hearing the jury verdicts, Judge Jeffrey C. Kauffman then ordered Broussard to return for sentencing scheduled for 9 a.m. March 16 and ordered Dogan to return at 9 a.m. April 10 in the Justice Center in Fairfield.

Dogan remains in Solano County Jail in Fairfield without bail, and Broussard remains in the Stanton Correctional Facility in Fairfield, also without bail.

Deputy District Attorney Mary Nguyen led the prosecution. Marin County-based criminal defense attorney Eileen C. Burke represented Broussard. Alternate Public Defender Sean Swartz represented Dogan.

Court records show that Harper-Reed and Dogan, setting up the marijuana sale for Broussard, made arrangements to meet at the Chevron gas station in the 1200 block Anderson Way in Suisun City on Nov. 3, 2017.

About 9:35 p.m. HarperReed, arrived at the Chevron station with his girlfriend, who was driving his car. Broussard and Dogan arrived and parked next to them. Dogan got into the back seat behind HarperReed.

Dogan then yelled to Broussard, asking him if he wanted to see the marijuana. Broussard then got into the vehicle. HarperReed handed some marijuana to Broussard, who then said, “You know what time it is.”

At that moment, HarperReed got out of the vehicle, along with Dogan and Broussard. Harper-Reed's girlfriend could hear a commotion and shots fired, with Harper-Reed ending up shot in the back. He died of his wound at the scene.

Dogan and Broussard were later identified months later through cell phone records and arrested.

Jurors determined that Dogan fired the fatal shot.

Former Suisun City Police Department Detective James Sousa investigated the case. Victim Witness Advocate Cynthia Malloy provided victim advocacy and support to the victims' family.
