Heaven’s angels came for Mary Frances Tekautz on January 6, 2023 and she went home at peace. Mary was born, in March 1945 in Texas to Glenn and Grace Ayres. She grew up in Minnesota, and from grade school on, she strove to be an elementary school teacher, which she did for 38 years after training in Minnesota and Idaho and then moving to California to seek adventure in the Fairfield-Suisun Schools as a Kindergarten teacher. Mary loved her students, her family and Vacaville with her boundless unwavering kind and loving spirit. Her beautifully radiant smile and laughter reflected her love of all people, with never a cross or unkind word. Mary’s greatest love in life was supporting her two sons as they grew up, through their college and on their successful career paths. She extended the same enthusiastic care to her siblings, her two stepchildren and all her nine grandchildren.
As a long-time member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Vacaville, Mary helped organize the excellent childcare PEP program, gave time and energy to religious learning for teenagers as well hosting Bible studies in her home for many years. She belonged to the Delta Delta Delta Sorority since college and was a very active member and past president of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.), which awards college financial help to women in need. A personal joy for Mary each year was to orchestrate a church-wide trip to see the Rivercats in Sacramento.
Mary is survived by her husband of 22 years, Frank Tekautz; her sons Chad (Maurine) Collins, David (Lauren) Collins; stepson Michael (Lisa) Tekautz and stepdaughter Tanya-deceased (Matt) Tekautz. Nine grandchildren: Antonio, Molly, Ella, Giovanni, Frank, Barbara, Ben, Simone, Audrey
Memorial gathering will be March 11 at 11:00 A.M. at Community Presbyterian Church, 425 Hemlock Street in Vacaville.
