Visit Vacaville seeking Cows on Parade sponsors

- By Rebecca Wasik

Visit Vacaville is searching for businesses that want to sponsor a cow. A life-size, fiberglass cow, that is.

These six life-size fiberglass cows are part of an inaugural art project from the tourism organization. The fiberglass cows will be painted and decorated by a local artist and displayed permanently throughout the city.

Businesses can sponsor a cow for $4,000. Where the cow calls home is up to the sponsor. Each cow will become part of the Vacaville Arts Trail and accessible for public viewing. Actual size of each cow is 62 inches high by 96 inches long by 336 inches wide.

Besides community recognition, the sponsor will also receive a custom plaque, a bold listing with the sponsor's name and logo on over 1,000 printed visitor maps of the city, a business listing and logo in a full-page “thank you” ad in The Vacaville Reporter, the sponsor's logo and link to their business on the Visit Vacaville website arts page, logo inclusion on the Vacaville Arts Trail, a sponsor “thank you” post on Visit Vacaville social media with a business logo, quote about why you support public art, and link to your social media platform, a Facebook interview in front of your sponsored sculpture (including a spotlight on your business, art piece and artist) and a logo inclusion in a platinum sponsor “thank you” post with a link to the sponsor's social media platform.

“We know that Vacaville was named for the Vaca family, one of the first two settlers in our city, but there is something fun about having a destination whose name translates from Spanish to English into `cow town' — and we've decided to lean into it with this playful art exhibit we're naming `Cows on Parade,'” said Visit Vacaville President & CEO Melyssa Reeves in a press statement. “Everyone benefits from local art, especially pieces like these whimsical and unexpected sculptures. They bring joy to passersby, become associated with unique neighborhoods, attract visitors that boost tourism revenue for our city and its merchants, and give local artists another platform to broaden the audience for their work. We plan to add new pieces to the parade every year.”

Sponsorships are available until 5 p.m. April 14. All finished pieces will be displayed for Vacaville's annual Arts Week, Sept. 15-24.
