Fairfield home incurs major damage in fire
A Saturday morning structure fire in Fairfield led to the home's occupant being rescued and taken to a local trauma center and the rescue of several pets.
In a social media post, John Sturdee, deputy chief of operations for the Fairfield Fire Department, said crews responded to a call six minutes after midnight to a home in the 600 block Hillside Drive.
According to the post, units arrived to find “a well-involved back patio/ deck as well as an established fire inside the twostory home.” A second alarm was ordered.
Searching the home, firefighters found and rescued an adult male. He was taken to a local trauma center by ambulance, with firefighter/paramedics aboard providing advanced lifesupport care, Sturdee said in the written statement. Two dogs and a pet snake also were rescued, but a cat died, he noted.
The fire was contained to the home, which sustained major damage. Damage to the home and property is estimated to be $400,000.
A firefighter reported one minor burn but did not require medical care, and the fire's cause remains under investigation but appears to be accidental, said Sturdee.
Station coverage and mutual aid at the scene were provided by Vacaville Fire Department. Other stations were covered by Vallejo and Suisun City fire departments.
By late afternoon Saturday, no additional information was available.
“I want to commend the heroic actions of the men and women of the Fairfield Fire Department,” Sturdee added in the post. “Their heroic actions saved a human life and many of the family's pets.”
