Partnership gives 93 care packages to unhoused
A recent partnership between Vacaville City Coach and Opportunity House provided 93 care packages, 96 pounds of canned food, 13 pounds of full-size toiletries, and 15 pounds of clothing to unhoused individuals within the Vacaville community.
“This partnership is a great example of what can be achieved when organizations come together for a common cause,” said Lori DaMassa, Vacaville City Coach Transit Coordinator. “We are grateful for the support of Opportunity House and all the people that donated and volunteered to help make this donation drive a success. We are committed to continuing our efforts to support the community and look forward to partnering with Opportunity House again in the future.”
According to DaMassa, the drive was a success thanks to the overwhelming support of the Vacaville community and 30 volunteers who helped assemble the care packages. Each care package contained essential items such as toiletries, socks, hand warmers, protein bars, and rain ponchos.
“The care packages will undoubtedly make a difference in the lives of those who receive them, and the partnership will continue to inspire others to give back in the community,” said DaMassa.
While plans have not been finalized at this time, DaMassa said organizers are hopeful that they will be able to do another drive in the summer months to provide items to the unhoused that are geared towards warmer weather.
Vacaville City Coach, the city's bus system, operates six local fixed routes that provide coverage throughout the city, in addition to ADA paratransit services and a local taxi scrip program.
