Nominations sought for `Bike Champion of the Year'
Nominations are currently being sought for Solano County's 2024 Bike Champion of the Year.
Every year each of the nine Bay Area counties selects its own bike champion, recognized for their dedication to promoting bicycling as a primary mode of transportation and for their ability to inspire others in their local communities, said Vincent Ma, marketing and legislative program manager for the Solano Transportation Authority.
And each year, county residents help identify who is making Solano County a better place to be and to bike, he added in a press release.
Winners will receive prizes and recognition throughout the Bay Area. Nomination forms for the 2024 Bike Champions of the Year will be live through March 29. To submit a nomination, visit bayareabiketowork.com/event-information/bike-champion-ofthe-year.
Winners will be announced
at the end of April, just in time to celebrate the 30th annual Bike to Wherever Days throughout the month of May.
“Biking to work is a great way to improve your physical and mental health, and the environment,” STA board chairman and Rio Vista Mayor Ron Kott said
in the prepared statement. “The Bike Commuter of the Year award is a wonderful way to recognize individuals who inspire others to get on their bikes and try a fun and enjoyable way to get to work.”
The STA's Safe Routes to School Program will host Bike to School Day on May 8.
Bike To Work Day, scheduled for May 16, is the Bay Area's premier cycling event to encourage commuters to try bike commuting for the first time or to recommit to increasing time spent cycling.
On May 16, volunteers will staff 10 “energizer stations” to cheer on bike commuters and hand out commemorative 30th anniversary reusable Bike to Work Day canvas bags and bicycling information, said Ma.
