CUEVA AND CHERRY LIFT VANDEN TO WIN

Team downs Will C. Wood 10-0; Vacaville cruises to win over Fairfield

Isabella Cueva threw a fiveinning three-hitter and Maalia Cherry hit two home runs to lead the Vanden High softball team to a 10-0 victory over Will C. Wood on Thursday.

Vanden was up 2-0 when the Vikings scored six more runs in the fourth inning to increase their lead. The game would eventually end in five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Cherry finished with three hits and two RBI, while Mia Zabat and Mya Evans also had two hits in the win. Niayli Sheets-Calvo also collected two hits as Vanden improved to 3-1 in the Monticello Empire League opener for both squads.

Wood had hits from Gisele Tinoco, Danica Walker and Karly Sampson.

Madisyn Farnham gave up 12 hits in four and a third innings for Wood.

Wood fell to 1-4 on the season with the loss.

Vanden plays at Vacaville High on Tuesday with first pitch slated for 4 p.m., while Wood plays next at home on Tuesday against Armijo.

Vacaville 11, Fairfield 0

The Vacaville High softball team defeated Fairfield on Wednesday 11-0.

Kali Walpole had three hits and four RBI for the Bulldogs in the win. Lola Vazquez scored three runs, while Paige Witte and Jordan Munn each had a hit and an RBI. Laila Dean had two hits and three RBI.

Xochitl Atayde pitched three innings and struck out seven while giving up one hit. Angelique Perez pitched two innings and struck out three.

Vacaville is now 4-2 on the season.

Casa Grande 6, Dixon 3

The Dixon High softball team lost to Casa Grande 6-3 on Wednesday.

Emily Morris had four hits for the Rams in the loss.
