“We treat them com­pletely separately as the be­lief is all our records from‘ Rocka Rolla’ up to ‘ Fire­power’— they all have their own metal legs to stand on in terms of iden­tity and sound,” he said.

The ti­tle song— an­dopen­ing track — on“Fire­power” res­onates­most with Hal­ford, be­cause­he­be­lieves it speaks to the rest of the record.

InFe­bru­ary, the­ban­dan­nounced that long­time lead gui­taristGlenn Tip­ton­would not be tour­ing with the bandafter be­ing di­ag­nosed with lat­estageParkin­son’s dis­ease. Al­though hewill not tour, he re­main­san­ac­tive mem­berin the group. “Fire­power” pro­duc­erAndySneap­pick­supthe gui­tar in his stead.

“You’ll be see­ing Priest as you want,” Hal­ford said. “There will be a slight ad­just­ment ... but ( Tip­ton) wants it to be a very suc­cess­ful ‘ Fire­power’ tour.

“I think a lot of peo­ple are go­ing to be drawn to the show­for the sim­ple fact that they love Priest and they want to hear the songs again and again,” Hal­ford said.

In or­der to pre­pare for the show each­night, Hal­ford­said he­lim­its his speak­ing to amin­i­mum­so­hecan pre­serve hisvoice, an­dalso tries to re­main­healthysohe can uti­lize his “in­stru­ment” to its fullest po­ten­tial. At­this point in his life, he­said his voice is“more­pre­cious than ever.”

And al­though it’s been nearly five decades since the be­gin­ning of Ju­das Priest, Hal­ford does not see an end in sight.

“You­can’t re­al­ly­tur­nitoff,” he said. “If you’re­luck­ye­noughto­bea cre­ativeper­son­that is still­hun­gry and­cu­ri­ou­sand­hasasenseof ad­ven­ture... That’sthedriv­ing­for­ceinme, andthat’sthe­sameinGlen­nandS­cott andRichie­andIan. It’ssome­thingyou can’t re­allyswitchoff.”
