Philadelphia Doctors Chamber Orchestra Concert
Journey’s Way, located at 403 Rector St., Roxborough, will present a concert by The Philadelphia Doctors Chamber Orchestra Friday, March 22, at 7:30 p.m.
The doors will open at 6:30 p.m., and the community is invited to view the handmade quilts on display in the lobby and enjoy some light refreshments before the concert.

“Lips Together, Teeth Apart”
The Old Academy Players will present “Lips Together, Teeth Apart” by prolific American playwright Terrence McNally.
This drama, directed by Rob Rosiello, produced by Nancy Ridgeway and with set design by T. Mark Cole, will run March 22 and 23 at 8 p.m. and March 24 at 2 p.m.

Electronics Recycling
The Weavers Way Environment Committee will host an electronics recycling event March 23 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Norwood-Fontbonne Academy, 8891 Germantown Ave., Chestnut Hill.
Community members may bring anything with a plug that turns on and off for recycling. The Weavers Way Environment Committee will partner with PAR (People Advancing Reintegration-Recycle Works), a local, nonprofit recycler that offers transitional employment to men and women who are returning from prison.
PAR charges $15 for air conditioners, dehumidifiers and air purifiers. It also charges $5 for flat-screen TVs and microwaves and $30 to $65 for older CRT TVs and monitors. Batteries also will be accepted at $1 per pound.
The Environment Committee asks for donations of $10 to $20 for its community grant program.
Hoops Madness 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament
The Chestnut Hill Community Association will present its seventh annual Hoops Madness 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament Saturday, March 23, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy, 500 West Willow Grove Ave., Chestnut Hill.
Hoops Madness will offer kids and adults a chance to play half court, 3-on-3 games of basketball and participate in a variety of shooting contests. Players are encouraged to preregister and form teams of four (three players and a substitute), or they can be placed on a team the day of the tournament. All players will receive a CHCA Hoops Madness T-shirt and are eligible to participate in the 3-point, foul-shooting and half-court shooting competitions.
Players should check in starting at 8:30 a.m.
Cost: children 6 to 18 $18; adult CHCA members $20; non-members $25.
All proceeds will benefit the Chestnut Hill Community Association.

Metropolitan Ballet Co. Performance
The Metropolitan Ballet Co. will host guest artists from the San Francisco Ballet’s Trainee Program for Variations/Collaborations, an evening of dance and music, March 23 at 7 p.m. at the Kurtz Center at William Penn Charter School, 3000 W. School House Lane, East Falls.

Town Hall Meeting
State Rep. Pamela A. DeLissio, D-194, will host her 82nd town hall meeting Thursday, March 28, at 7 p.m. at Falls Ridge Community Room, 4349 Ridge Ave., East Falls.
The primary topic will be criminal justice reform and will feature guest speaker Elizabeth Randol, legislative director for the ACLU of Pennsylvania. Topics to be covered will include ending cash bail, holding prosecutors accountable, reforming probation and parole, sentencing reform and stopping attempts by the state legislature to reinstate mandatory minimums. A speaker representing differing views is also being identified to participate.

Safari Party
The Friends of the Roxborough Library will present a Safari Party featuring live, exotic animals Saturday, March 31, at 11:30 a.m. at the Roxborough Library, 6245 Ridge Ave., Roxborough.
Lynne Grim, owner of Safari Parties, and her animals will educate the public to appreciate nature, to live in harmony with all the earth’s inhabitants and to respect all living creatures.

Documentary Screening
Heeding God’s Call to End Gun Violence will present a screening of the award-winning documentary “Quest” Sunday, March 31, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Chestnut Hill Presbyterian Church, 8855 Germantown Ave., Chestnut Hill.
“Quest” is the documentary portrait of the Rainey family living in North Philadelphia.
Following the film, there will be a question-and-answer session with director Jonathan Olshefski and producer Sabrina Schmidt Gordon.

LIVESTRONG
The Roxborough YMCA, 7201 Ridge Ave., Roxborough, will offer the 12-week LIVESTRONG program on Tuesdays and Thursdays, April 2 through June 20, from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
The Y and the LIVESTRONG Foundation have joined together to create LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, a research-based physical activity and wellbeing program designed to help adult cancer survivors reclaim their total health.
Participants work with Y staff trained in supportive cancer care to safely achieve their goals, such as building muscle mass and strength; increasing flexibility and endurance; and improving confidence and self-esteem.
This program is free to both members and nonmembers.

Journey’s Way, Resources & Programs for People 55+, will offer a ceramics handbuilding class for beginners and beyond on Tuesday, April 2 to June 4, from 2 to 4 p.m.

The group is facilitated by Deborah K. Gawthrop, a certified grief management specialist.

“Pictorial to Abstract”
“Pictorial to Abstract” will feature artist Alex McKibbin’s watercolors, oil paintings and drawings, along with artwork in various media by members of the Manayunk-Roxborough Artists’ Co-Op, for three days only in the gallery of the Manayunk-Roxborough Art Center (MRAC).
The opening reception for “Pictorial to Abstract” will be held Sunday, April 7, from noon to 3 p.m. The other exhibition dates are April 13 and 14 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Admission is free, donations are encouraged.
The MRAC is located at 419 Green Lane (rear), Roxborough. The exhibit will then moves to the Roxborough Development Corporation, 6120 Ridge Ave., Roxborough, for the month of May.

Gen. Hugh Mercer Celebration and Wreath Laying Ceremony
The St. Andrew’s Society of Philadelphia will present the first Gen. Hugh Mercer Celebration and Wreath Laying Ceremony Saturday, April 13, at 11 a.m. at Laurel Hill Cemetery, 3822 Ridge Ave., East Falls.
Mercer was a native of Scotland who became a brigadier general and commander of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War and died as a result of his wounds received at the Battle of Princeton. Originally buried at Christ Church Burial Ground in Philadelphia, his removal to Laurel Hill in 1840 was accompanied by a great deal of ceremony and publicity for the cemetery.
This family friendly event will feature a parade of Revolutionary War re-enactors, civilians in period attire, special dignitaries, heritage groups and pipes and drums. The participants will advance to Mercer’s final resting place and memorialize his services to his nation. A 21-gun salute and whiskey toast will cap off the program at the graveside and will be followed by a reception at the Gatehouse.
Participants are encouraged to wear period costumes and highland dress.
The Friends of Laurel Hill Cemetery will be available to provide a walking tour of the cemetery to visit the sites of other Revolutionary War veterans who are buried at Laurel Hill.
Blue and White Night
The Roxborough High School Alumni Association’s annual Blue and White Night will take place Saturday, April 27, from 6 to 11 p.m. at North Hills Country Club, 99 Station Ave,. North Hills.
The event will feature hor d’ouvres, a full-course dinner and dancing.
The cost is $55 per person.

Shredding Event
State Rep. Pamela A. DeLissio, D-194, will hold a free shredding event for constituents of the 194th Legislative District to safely dispose of confidential, unwanted documents Saturday, May 11, from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Roxborough Municipal Lot, 514 Dupont St., Roxborough.
The event will be held rain or shine.
There is a limit of four bags per household (standard storage/banker boxes or grocery bags).
All shredding is done on site, and shredded paper will be recycled.

The 18th annual Roxborough High School all-class reunion, Indians at the Inlet ,will be held Saturday, Aug. 3, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Inlet On Olde (formerly Westy’s) in North Wildwood, N.J.
A bus will be available for transportation to and from the reunion from Roxborough depending on commitment and interest.
