BRYN MAWR >> A working team of students and teachers is assembling to stage a Student Fashion & Design Show on Sunday afternoon, September 27.

All students from all schools, grades 8 through 12, are invited to show their work sewn, stitched, or crafted.

This F&D Show is sponsored by Teen Learning Community of Bryn Mawr and will take place at the Gazebo, Green, and Spring House, located near Ludington Library, from 3 pm to 5 pm.

Radnor High School’s Kaitlyn May is the Student-Director, following in the footsteps of Abby Cooper, RHS Class of 2020, who managed the 2019 show and was onboard during

the early steps for the 2020 COVID-canceled show.

Since the start of the F&D Show in 2007, previous Student-Directors have been Samantha

Raymond (Harriton), Claire DeVerter (Harriton), Grace McDonald (Friends’ Central), Suzy Sergott (Harriton), and Maddie Bailis, Lauren Piccoli, and Jenny Smolen (Lower Merion).

Frankie May, RHS Class of 2023, is the current F&D team’s graphics designer who is creating flyers for circulation to local schools.

Since the early years, proceeds raised by the F&D Show have been directed to the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America, with offices located in Bala Cynwyd, and “in memoriam” Ora Reed Pierce, former Lower Merion Commissioner.

The F&D Show program always includes live music, with the goal to help promote singer+songwriter students.

For recent shows, Conestoga High School, Class of 2019, Eric Perez has brought his unique sound to the events which were held at Main Line Art Center in Haverford.

Without a doubt, the support and advice of Main Line teachers in the areas of Family & Consumer Sciences, the Arts, and Metal Arts have proven to be invaluable to sustaining interest in schools.

Currently, for several years, Radnor High School FACS Teacher Mrs. Melanie Pereira has provided ongoing guidance, as F&D Show Advisor.

Since the show’s inception 15 years ago, students from nearly every high school from City Avenue to Paoli have shown their talents in pattern-making, design, sewing, metal arts, jewelrymaking, and avant-garde approaches to apparel and accessories.

Bobby Williams, alumnus of Springside Chestnut Hill Academy and now a student at Hult International Business School, has developed his own line of apparel with his brand REINE and showed his modeled garments at the F&D Show prior to the COVID shutdown.

The upcoming September 27 F&D Show will also function as a preview of the Spring 2022 event to be held at a Main Line location.
