DeLissio to host Senior Expo
ROXBOROUGH » State Rep. Pamela A. DeLissio, D-194, will host a free Senior Expo from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 27 during the Roxborough Hospital Good Neighbor Day being held at the hospital, 5800 Ridge Ave.
The expo will be under the tent in the lot off of Rector Street. This is a rain or shine event. DeLissio said she will continue to offer a diverse group of exhibitors at the expo to acknowledge seniors’ varied interests and needs.
“Seniors are active and vital members of the community, and I’m excited to be able to bring together a diverse group of agencies and organizations that offer opportunities specifically for older adults,” DeLissio said. “Folks will be introduced to organizations providing lifelong learning and volunteer opportunities and ways to stay or become engaged with the community in which we live, work and play.”
Representatives from the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging, Visiting Nurses Association, SeniorLAW Center, AARP and many other organizations will be available to provide information that older adults may find helpful. Additionally, DeLissio said she is pleased to have organizations such as ACCT Philly with furry friends looking for happy homes, Road Scholar providing information on its educational travel tours, Community College of Philadelphia, the local YMCA and representatives from the local civic associations in the 194th District, all providing ways to remain active and involved.
“My goal is to make sure that my district’s older constituents are not only aware of the services available to them but also have access to the community resources that continue to offer opportunities to be active and participate in the community,” she said. “Staying connected and engaged in activities enhances productivity and enriches lives, no matter what one’s age is.”
Anyone who is in need of having their photo taken for their SEPTA Key senior ID card will be able to do so in the Wolcoff Auditorium, where SEPTA representatives can assist.
“The Roxborough Memorial Hospital School of Nursing will be providing a Health Fair and performing a number of free health screenings during the expo, such as blood pressure, glucose and bone mineral density scans,” DeLissio said.
Additionally, those interested in receiving a flu shot can call the hospital in advance at 215487-4458.
The Senior Expo also will include free giveaways, including a day trip for two to the state Capitol to shadow DeLissio while she works in Harrisburg.
