Hol­i­day events kick off

Both the Roxbor­ough and Manayunk de­vel­op­ment corps. will usher in the hol­i­day sea­son this week as they kick off se­ries of hol­i­day cel­e­bra­tions.


The Roxbor­ough De­vel­op­ment Corp. will present its win­ter event se­ries, Happy Hol­i­days From Roxbor­ough, Nov. 30 and Dec. 6 and 15.

Happy Hol­i­days From Roxbor­ough is a se­ries of stops along Ridge Av­enue of­fer­ing a com­pli­men­tary hol­i­day por­trait with Santa. All stops are fam­ily friendly.

The Roxbor­ough Tree Light­ing Cer­e­mony will take place Fri­day, Nov. 30, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Roxbor­ough Pocket Park, 6170 Ridge Ave. Light the hol­i­day tree with Santa, and join in on sing-a-longs with lo­cal car­ol­ers.

Pizza Neapoli­tan with Santa will take place Thurs­day, Dec. 6, from 4 to 8 p.m. at A Tutti, 5154 Ridge Ave. Santa in­vites com­mu­nity mem­bers to ex­pe­ri­ence Neapoli­tan-style pizza and home­made Ital­ian meals at A Tutti Ris­torante Ital­iano.

Hol­i­day crafts with Santa and his elf will take place Satur-

day, Dec. 15, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the UPS Store, 6024 Ridge Ave. Santa and his gui­tar-play­ing elf will help dec­o­rate a hol­i­day or­na­ment or pic­ture frame at the UPS Store in Roxbor­ough.

All are wel­come and will be able to visit Santa and friends dur­ing the Happy Hol­i­days From Roxbor­ough se­ries. Com­pli­men­tary pho­to­graphs will be taken at all lo­ca­tions. Can­did color pho­to­graphs of chil­dren and their fam­i­lies will be made avail­able dig­i­tally af­ter the events.

“Happy Hol­i­days From Roxbor­ough has be­come one of the Roxbor­ough com­mu­nity’s fa­vorite hol­i­day events,” Roxbor­ough De­vel­op­ment Corp. Ex­ec­u­tive Di­rec­tor James Harry Calamia said. “We’re quite proud of this year’s se­ries, in­clud­ing the in­au­gu­ral hol­i­day tree light­ing at the Roxbor­ough Pocket Park.”


The an­nual tree light­ing will be held at Canal View Park Thurs­day, Nov. 29, at 5:30 p.m. fea­tur­ing per­for­mances by Merge Dance Stu­dio and the Delaware Val­ley Opera Co. and an ap­pear­ance from the big man him­self.

On Dec. 2, Santa Paws is com­ing to the Pet Friendly Dog Bak­ery, 4324 Main St., from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Get your pet’s photo taken for a sug­gested fee of $10, which will be do­nated to the Philadel­phia Chap­ter of the Na­tional Ca­nine Can­cer Foun­da­tion.

On Dec. 8, Philadel­phia Run­ner will host its fifth an­nual Ru­dolph Run at 9 a.m. Dress to im­press for this three-mile run along the tow­path. The only cost to join the run is a canned or non-per­ish­able food item to be do­nated to North Light Com­mu­nity Center’s food cup­board. In ex­change for each do­na­tion, par­tic­i­pants will re­ceive a raf­fle ticket for the chance to win a gift bas­ket filled with items and gift cards from lo­cal Manayunk busi­nesses. Run­ners are also el­i­gi­ble for deals and dis­counts at se­lect restau­rants and re­tail­ers when they show their bib.

Not only does the Main Street com­mu­nity host a va­ri­ety of hol­i­day events; it also gives back. Lo­cal busi­nesses will also con­tinue the Manayunk Meals & More tra­di­tion Dec. 23, where se­lect restau­rants will pre­pare and de­liver 1,000-plus hot meals to In­ter­com­mu­nity Ac­tion Inc.’s Jour­ney’s Way pro­gram. Other lo­cal shops and restau­rants will col­lect canned goods, toi­letries and pa­per prod­ucts for North Light Com­mu­nity Center’s food cup­board through­out the hol­i­day sea­son.

Other new ad­di­tions to this hol­i­day sea­son are the Manayunk Hol­i­day Stroll nights ev­ery Thurs­day from Nov. 29 to Dec. 20. Each week will fea­ture a dif­fer­ent theme, such as Sweets & Spir­its Night, Se­cret Santa Night, Men’s Shop­ping Night and Dash­ing Through the Stores Night.
