Old Academy Play­ers to stage ‘Cal­en­dar Girls’

EAST FALLS >> East Falls’ Old Academy Play­ers will cel­e­brate its 96th sea­son and the new year by pre­sent­ing “Cal­en­dar Girls” by Tim Firth.

Di­rected by Loretta Lucy Miller, “Cal­en­dar Girls” is a stage play based on a true story of 11 York­shire women who posed nude to pro­duce a cal­en­dar to raise money for leukemia re­search un­der the aus­pices of the Women’s In­sti­tutes. In 2003, it be­came a block­buster movie star­ring He­len Mir­ren and Julie Wal­ters.

The Old Academy Play­ers plan to sell their own nude cal­en­dar as a fundraiser.

Show dates are Fri­days, Jan. 11, 18 and 25, at 8 p.m.; Satur­days, Jan. 12, 19 and 26, at 8 p.m.; and Sun­days, Jan. 20 and 27, at 2 p.m.

Tick­ets cost $20 per per­son and are avail­able at olda­cade­my­play­ers.org.

Park­ing for all per­for­mances is free.
