-

Henriette Elodie Lohr of Moreno Valley is celebrating her 100th birthday in February.

She was born Feb. 9, 1922, in Philadelphia and moved with her family to Yale, Michigan, when she was 2 or 3 years old.

She met Arland Lohr when she was in high school, and they were married in April 1941.

In 1947, they moved to Traverse City, Michigan, and in August 1955 they moved to California, making the trip with their five children in a 1953

Her husband didn’t have a job when they arrived in California, but he soon found one and worked many years in the heating and air conditioning industry.

They lived on Second Street in Colton until 1969, and during those years Henriette was busy raising the children. She also worked briefly for the San Bernardino County Probation Department.

She and her husband moved to Whittier in 1969, then to Riverside in 1978 to be partners with their daughter and sonin-law Janice and Tom Gardner In two Ace Hardware stores in Moreno Valley.

They moved to Moreno Valley in 1981 and, after retiring in 1987, they began traveling across the United States and Canada as members of Thousand Trails and the Good Sam Club.

They celebrated their 66th anniversary in April 2007, and Arland died later that year, in July.

Her children are Judith Clark of Sacramento, Janice Gardner and husband Tom of Moreno Valley, Grant Lohr and wife Brenda of Carlsbad, Arlene Conley of Spokane, Washington, and Douglas Lohr, also of Spokane.

She also has 14 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
