Angels add Tepera, Bradley to bullpen
The Angels are loading up on relief help.
The Angels reportedly agreed to deals with relievers Ryan Tepera and Archie Bradley on Thursday, according to multiple reports.
Tepera agreed to a twoyear, $14-million deal. Bradley agreed to a one-year, $3.75-million deal.
The team has not confirmed either deal, which would bring exceptional depth to the back end the bullpen.
Tepera, Bradley and lefthander Aaron Loup could all set up closer Raisel Iglesias.
Tepera, 34, posted a 2.79 ERA in 65 games last season, pitching for the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Cubs. He has a career 3.48 ERA in parts of seven big-league seasons. He spent his first five seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays.
Last season, Tepera pitched 61 1/3 innings, striking out 74 and walking of 19.
Bradley, 29, posted a 3.71 ERA in 51 games with the Philadelphia Phillies last season. He struck out 40 and walked 22 in 51 innings.
Bradley has a 3.09 ERA in five seasons as a relief pitcher, including a 1.73 mark for the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2017. A former first-round pick, Bradley was a starter for his first two seasons.
Bradley and Tepera join Iglesias, who saved 34 games with a 2.57 ERA with the Angels last season, and
Loup, who had a 0.95 ERA with the New York Mets.
Right-handers Mike Mayers and Austin Warren would also seem to have an inside track for jobs in the bullpen, with the list of potential pitchers including right-handers Andrew Wantz, José Marte, Oliver Ortega, Elvis Peguero and Ty Buttrey, and left-hander José Quijada. Right-hander Jaime Barria is out of options, so if he doesn’t win a job in the rotation he would likely pitch out of the bullpen.
