The Los Angeles International Dairy Competition — winners are showcased at the L.A. County Fair, and both are celebrating centennials this year — was held in February in Pomona, and two local ice cream makers came away big winners

Montclairbased Scoops on Tap, which specializes in ice cream infused with beer and other spirits (but also makes alcohol-free flavors), won eight gold and two silver medals for its ice creams, plus two gold medals for its packaging.

The bulk of its awards were in the full fat ice cream, other flavors category. The following flavors earned gold medals: Toasted Marshmallow Crunch, coffee stout, chocolate stout, banana, dulce de leche, Rich Butterscotch and crème brûlée.

Scoops on Tap also won a gold medal for its Luxurious Madagascar Vanilla ice cream in the premium vanilla ice cream category 1.

The silver medals were for Marvelous Strawberry ice cream in the premium strawberry ice cream category 1, and Uber Creamy Chocolate ice cream in the premium chocolate ice cream category 1.

Scoops on Tap’s ice creams are available at the Cal Poly Pomona Farm Store in Pomona and Corner Butcher in La Verne, as well as online via Goldbelly and at various farmers markets and other pop-up locations.

Its first scoop shop is coming to Covina.

Happy Camper Creamery, which opened in Redlands in September, won three awards for its gelatos, along with a gold medal for packaging.

The shop won medals for its strawberry gelato, in the strawberry italian gelato category 1; and for its Cafe Mexicano Gelato and S’more Gelato, both in the italian gelato, other flavors category.
