Skate retailer Active Ride Shop has new owners once again

Will Active Ride Shop rise to prominence again?

The troubled action sports retailer has been bought by The Phoenix Project Inc, an investor group led by Esmail Mawjee, a former president of Active Ride Shop.

The Rancho Cucamongabased Active has been in and out of financial trouble. In 2020, its lendergemcap Solutions put the company’s assets up for auction. Bedford

Ventures Inc. bought the company only to see it sold again by Gemcap.

Now, Mawjee takes on the role of chief executive at Active alongside Ryan Ciucki

as chief financial officer, Philip Myers as president and Keith Beckley who continues as VP of retail.

The new team said it plans to continue operating Active’s three Inland Empire retail stores in Rancho Cucamonga, Redlands and Temecula. It also plans to relaunch the e-commerce business, which is currently under development.

Active at one point had nearly 30 stores across Southern California.

The properties include Grocery Outlet, a Rite Aid under development, and a two-tenant building that will have a Chipotle and Quick Quack Car Wash by 2023.

The brokerage did not identify the seller or buyer, who paid cash for the properties at 35958 Winchester Road in French Valley.

Industrial building in Murrieta fetches $6.8 million in sale

A 36,120-square-foot multitenant industrial building in Murrieta has sold for $6.8 million.

The building, completed in 2004 at 38415 Innovation Court, was leased to KTM North America at the time of sale, according to Coldwell Banker Commercial SC.

The buyer acquired the property in Silverhawk Business Park as part of a 1031 exchange in an offmarket transaction, Coldwell broker Carey Pastor said. “Industrial vacancy in this market is at an all-time low and fully leased multitenant industrial assets such as this remain in high demand.”

The brokerage repped both sides of the deal, including buyer Cobblestone Properties and seller, Flying Elk Enterprises.

Stop using these 2 brush hair dryers, U.S. agency says

If you bought two certain handheld hair dryer brushes on Amazon, they could pose an electrocution hazard.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission wants consumers to immediately stop using AIQRZBI and IGIA handheld hair dryer brushes because they can lack a protection device that prevents electrocution by shutting off the device if it gets immersed in, or otherwise contacts, water.

The hair dryer and hairbrush combo was sold in multiple colors and styles and might have come with interchangeable brush heads.

The hair dryers were sold on Amazon.com for between $30 and $71. Some of the known ASINS associated with these products are identified below. Amazon’s Standard Identification Number (or ASIN) typically is found in the product’s URL bar.

Those ASIN are: B09KNTBB7B sold by icherry Store and B08SR7PLPK sold by Pllaxo Inc. The business briefs are compiled and edited by Business Editor Samantha Gowen. Submit items to sgowen@scng.com.
