Diverse cast to perform ‘Hamlet’ through Oct. 16

A version of “Hamlet” that features a multicultu­ral cast has made its way to downtown Riverside.

The Full Circle Players’ rendition of the classic Shakespear­e tragedy began Thursday and runs through Oct. 16 at The Box.

“As part of FCP’S dedication to inclusion and diversity, casting for all performanc­es has always been based on talent with an eye toward equity and making theatre a place for everyone,” Director Wendi Johnson said in a news release.

The cast features Jared Sandoval in the lead role of Hamlet, Jay K. Weldon as Claudius and Janette Valenzano as Horatio.

“We are thankful to be able to perform Hamlet with a brilliant diverse cast, creating a rich and vibrant retelling of Shakespear­e’s masterpiec­e,” Johnson said in the release.

When the play premiered Thursday, the theater group offered a “pay-what-you-can first Thursday,” the release states.

The “Warm Welcome” program offers up to four tickets at $5 each when a guest shows their

EBT card at the door. Student and military discount tickets are $10. General admission tickets range from $18 to $25.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m. today, Saturday and Oct. 14 and 15; and at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday and Oct. 16. The Box is at 3635 Market St., Riverside. Tickets can be bought online at Fullcircle­players.com.
