THE GAME: Jo Adell hit a homer and made a spectacular catch, and non-roster invite Jake Lamb continued his sizzling spring, but left-hander Tucker Davidson gave up six runs in the Angels’ 9-6loss to the San Francisco Giants on Sunday afternoon in Scottsdale, Ariz.

PITCHING REPORT: Davidson, who is in the running for the Angels’ No. 6starter job, had allowed two runs in his first 10 innings before Sunday’s game. “Hopefully I’ve put myself in the conversation and I’ve had a a good enough spring to let that do the talking,” Davidson said. “We’ll see what happens.” Davidson gave up three runs in the second, all of them after a two-out third strike got past catcher Matt Thaiss, allowing Brett Auerbach to reach first. Davidson then issued a walk and gave up two straight hits, including an infield hit. Davidson was also hit in the back by a throw from shortstop Andrew Velazquez, who was firing from second to the plate to try to prevent a double steal. “The slider was really good, threw some really good splits,” Davidson said. “I’m happy with the way I threw, but some crazy things happened today.” … Right-hander Zack Weiss struck out one in a scoreless inning. It was his first appearance with the Angels after pitching for Israel in the World Baseball Classic. … The Giants scored three runs against lefthander Kenny Rosenberg in the seventh and eighth, snapping a tie.

HITTING REPORT: Adell hit his third homer of the spring. He is 10 for 42 (.238) with a .765OPS and 19strikeouts this spring. … Lamb was 3 for 3 with a pair of doubles. A veteran big leaguer in camp on a minorleague deal, Lamb is 12 for 29 (.414) with a 1.244 OPS this spring. … Livan Soto and Hunter Renfroeeach hit two-run homers in the fourth inning. It was Renfroe’s third homer of the spring. … Matt Thaiss was hitless in four at-bats, including one of his two strikeouts when the bases were loaded in the seventh. Thaiss is hitless in his last 10at-bats. … Brett Phillips had a single and a walk. He’s 4for 31(.129) with 17strikeouts.

DEFENSE REPORT: Adell raced in to grab a fly ball in foul territory about 50 feet behind third base, and he also made a leaping catch against the left-field fence. “The work he’s put in all last season, and continued all offseason, has really paid off, as far his reactions, his routes, catching the ball,” manager Phil Nevin said. “He’s such a a good athlete ... he gets to balls that most people don’t. He’s really doing a fine job out there.” The Angels called a pitchout when Auerbach was running, but he still beat catcher Max Stassi’s throw to second. … Velazquez went far to his right to grab a bouncer. His throw to first was off the bag, but in plenty of time, and Lamb, the first baseman, dropped it. It was ruled a hit.
