Duke stages huge rally for win over second-seeded Ohio State

Reigan Richardson scored 28 points and added seven rebounds as the visiting No. 7 seed Duke women rallied from a 16-point first-half deficit to beat second-seeded Ohio State 7563 on Sunday and earn a spot in the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2008.

Richardson hit a 3-pointer from the wing to put Duke up 59-57 with 5:21 left. That sparked a 13-2 run by the Blue Devils.

Duke (22-11) moves on to Portland, Oregon to play against the winner of Syracuse and Uconn.

Cotie Mcmahon paced the Buckeyes with 27 points.

Ohio State’s pressing defense caused problems for Duke early as the Buckeyes built a 16-point lead. But the Blue Devils came roaring back.

Albany 1 Regional

SOUTH CAROLINA 88, NORTH CAROLINA 41 >> Freshman Milaysia Fulwiley had 20 points, Kamilla Cardoso had 12 points and 10 rebound, and the unbeaten host Gamecocks (34-0) powered into their 10th straight Sweet 16 with a rout of the eighth-seeded Tar Heels (20-13).

Top overall seed South Carolina will play either No. 4 seed Indiana or No. 5 seed Oklahoma on Friday in the regional semifinals. OREGON STATE 61, NEBRASKA 51 >> Talia von Oelhoffen had 19 points and eight assists to help the third-seeded Beavers advance to the Sweet 16 with a win over the visiting No. 6 seed Cornhusker­s (23-13).

Oregon State (26-7) will face the winner of today’s second-round game between second-seeded Notre Dame and No. 7 Ole Miss.

Albany 2 Regional

LSU 83, MIDDLE TENNESSEE 56 >> Angel Reese had 20 points and 11 rebounds and the third-seeded Tigers responded to a ninepoint third-quarter deficit with a dominant finish to defeat the visiting No. 11 seed Blue Raiders.

Flau’jae Johnson scored 21 for LSU (30-5) to help end a 20-game winning streak by MTSU (30-5). COLORADO 63, KANSAS STATE 50 >> Tameiya Sadler scored all 10 of her points in the second half to lead a balanced scoring attack and the No. 5 seed Buffaloes beat the fourth-seeded Wildcats (26-8) to advance to the Sweet 16.

Colorado (24-9) will face No. 1 seed Iowa or No. 8 seed West Virginia.

Late Saturday Albany 2 Regional

CREIGHTON 87, NO. 20 UNLV 73 >> Lauren Jensen scored 25 points, Emma Ronsiek added 23 and the Bluejays sank 15 3-pointers in the victory at Pauley Pavilion.

Seventh-seeded Creighton (26-5) faces UCLA tonight at Pauley.

Desi-rae Young scored 30 points for UNLV (30-3). WEST VIRGINIA 63, PRINCETON 53 >> JJ Quinerly scored 29 points as the Mountainee­rs advanced in Iowa City.

Eighth-seeded West Virginia (25-7) advanced to today’s matchup with Iowa.

Princeton (25-5) led the entire first half despite shooting 34.4% from the field.

Portland 4 Regional

GONZAGA 75, UC IRVINE 56 >> Yvonne Ejim had 25 points and 14 rebounds and the No. 4-seeded Zags beat the Anteasters in Spokane.

Gonzaga (31-3) rallied from an 11-point first-half deficit and led by as many as 26 points in the fourth

Gonzaga will face No. 5 seed Utah in today’s second round.

Nevaeh Parkinson scored 18 points for UC Irvine (23-9), which was playing in its first NCAA Tournament since 1995. UTAH 68, SOUTH DAKOTA STATE 54 >> Alissa Pili scored 16 of her 26 points in the second half and the No. 5-seeded Utes (23-10) nearly let a 20-point lead evaporate before pulling away in the second half in Spokane.
