James Don­ald Bald died peace­fully in Sacra­mento on De­cem­ber

5, 2018 due to com­pli­ca­tions of Alzheimer’s and Parkin­son’s dis­eases. Jim was born on

4/19/1933 in Los An­ge­les to Flo­rence Natalie Hun­tress Bald and Wil­liam Ross Bald. He is sur­vived by his beloved wife Carol Stein­auer Bald and adored chil­dren Adam Michael Bald and Shel­ley El­iz­a­beth Bald of Sacra­mento and grand­daugh­ter Cora Lain Bald of South Lake Ta­hoe. He is pre-de­ceased by sis­ter El­iz­a­beth Ross Bald. He will be missed, too, by his ca­nine com­pan­ions Joe Cocker and Sa­van­nah. Jim grad­u­ated Pasadena City Col­lege and Los An­ge­les State Univer­sity where he ma­jored in jour­nal­ism. He served in the U.S. Army dur­ing the Korean con­flict, sta­tioned on St. Lawrence Is­land in the Ber­ing Sea as a Morse code in­ter­cep­tor. Jim was a re­spected news­pa­per re­porter and pho­tog­ra­pher in South­ern Cal­i­for­nia prior to mov­ing to Sacra­mento to work in the pub­li­ca­tions depart­ment for Cal­i­for­nia State Em­ploy­ees As­so­ci­a­tion, and was later em­ployed as a po­lit­i­cal con­sul­tant for the Cal­i­for­nia State Leg­is­la­ture. He was an avid reader of books and mag­a­zines on his­tory and pol­i­tics. The fam­ily wishes to thank the staff of Nelu’s Home Care and the staff of Ad­vanced Hospice, Inc. for the out­stand­ing care of Jim dur­ing the fi­nal stage of his life, and Dr. Jen­nifer Lee (Kaiser Sacra­mento) for her com­pas­sion­ate as­sis­tance.
