James Donald Bald died peacefully in Sacramento on December
5, 2018 due to complications of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. Jim was born on
4/19/1933 in Los Angeles to Florence Natalie Huntress Bald and William Ross Bald. He is survived by his beloved wife Carol Steinauer Bald and adored children Adam Michael Bald and Shelley Elizabeth Bald of Sacramento and granddaughter Cora Lain Bald of South Lake Tahoe. He is pre-deceased by sister Elizabeth Ross Bald. He will be missed, too, by his canine companions Joe Cocker and Savannah. Jim graduated Pasadena City College and Los Angeles State University where he majored in journalism. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict, stationed on St. Lawrence Island in the Bering Sea as a Morse code interceptor. Jim was a respected newspaper reporter and photographer in Southern California prior to moving to Sacramento to work in the publications department for California State Employees Association, and was later employed as a political consultant for the California State Legislature. He was an avid reader of books and magazines on history and politics. The family wishes to thank the staff of Nelu’s Home Care and the staff of Advanced Hospice, Inc. for the outstanding care of Jim during the final stage of his life, and Dr. Jennifer Lee (Kaiser Sacramento) for her compassionate assistance.
