A fast-casual restaurant chain known for its teriyaki dishes is expanding in the Sacramento area.

Teriyaki Madness plans to open a new location at 5975 Birdcage Centre Lane in Citrus Heights, according to its website.

Another restaurant is planned in El Dorado Hills at 4060 Town Center Blvd.

Teriyaki Madness already has one restaurant in the Sacramento region, at 289 Third St. in West Sacramento.

In an email to The Sacramento Bee, Teriyaki Madness spokeswoman Cassidy Small said the franchise is bringing its “big bowls and big flavors” to California, with a special eye on the northern and central portions of the state.

WHAT IS TERIYAKI MADNESS?

Founded in Las Vegas in 2003, Teriyaki Madness offers made-to-order dishes packed with fresh flavors.

The chain specializes in Seattle-style teriyaki, which is slightly different from the traditional Japanese dish.

Seattle-style teriyaki is

“sweeter, thicker, and more heavily spiced than what you’d find in Japan,” Eater Seattle writers Leonardo David Raymundo and Harry Cheadle explained in a 2023 story, “10 Spots to Eat Teriyaki, Seattle’s Comfort Classic.”

Marketed as a healthconscious chain, Teriyaki Madness said its meals are made with high-quality ingredients that won’t leave you with a “gut bomb.”

“We believe you should have a home-cooked meal, even if it’s not cooked in your home,” the chain said. “But our home is your home, so we’ll keep the wok fired up. Some people call us crazy. We say anything less would be madness.”

As of Monday morning, Teriyaki Madness representatives weren’t available to confirm opening dates for its new Citrus Heights and El Dorado Hills locations.

WHAT’S ON THE MENU?

Teriyaki Madness’s menu features teriyaki made with a variety of proteins, such as chicken, tofu, steak and salmon.

Also available are large bowls of orange chicken, chicken katsu, deep-fried chicken cutlets and stirfried noodles.

Smaller portions can be found on the appetizer list, which is limited to chicken eggrolls, edamame, crab rangoon and chicken potstickers.

WHERE ARE RESTAURANT LOCATIONS?

Small said Teriyaki Madness has at least 150 locations across the United States.

The chain currently has 17 restaurants in California, including locations in San Jose, San Diego, Los Angeles and Bakersfield.
