Chism earns All-state
BRYANT – Bryant senior Meagan Chism earned Allstate honors, while four other Lady Hornets took All-conference after a 19-13 season, 8-6 in the 6A Central Conference, while falling 5-3 to a very good Bentonville West squad in the state quarterfinals.
Chism, All-state for the third time, was excellent at the plate in her senior season as she led the Lady Hornets in most offensive categories, including average (.438), home runs (11), doubles (15) and RBIS (34), adding nine stolen bases.
“Offensively she did well,” Bryant Head Coach Lisa Dreher said. “She’s done well every year hitting the ball. We ended up putting her in the leadoff spot, which really worked best. It gave her more at-bats and we usually started the game off with her on base.”
Chism, a former catcher, also shined at shortstop, committing just six errors in 32 games, while getting the Gold Glove in team awards.
“Defensively, she filled the hole at shortstop,” Dreher said. “Probably not her best position, but she was the best shortstop for us. She did very well there. She had maybe six errors, which is very low for shortstop. She had a great year.”
Taking home Allconference honors was junior Maddie Thompson, who was also named to the
All-state Tournament Team, sophomore Alissa Suarez, and freshmen Regan “Buddha” Dillon and Caitlin Lacerra.
Thompson batted .414, leading the team with 33 runs, and added eight doubles, three homers, 24 RBIS and seven stolen bases.
“Maddie has come a long way,” Dreher said. “Defensively she played third and hit the ball very well. Every year she’s gotten a little bit better defensively and offensively. I’m hopeful for next year if she can continue that.”
Suarez hit .361 with seven doubles, a team-leading five triples and a homer, adding 25 runs and 21 RBIS.
Dillon had a .368 average with five doubles, two homers and 19 RBIS, while Lacerra was Most Improved for Bryant, hitting .387 with 19 runs and a team-leading 15 stolen bases.
