Infiniti sweeps Poyen for 4th straight

POYEN — The Benton Infiniti Dirt Bags (16U) swept a doublehead­er on the road Monday to improve to 4-3 overall, winning their fourth straight contest. Infiniti downed Poyen 13-5 in the first game and held on for a 6-4 win in Game 2.

The Dirt Bags needed just two hits to score all six of their runs, putting up three each in the first and second innings, in Game 2. Benton scored its runs in the first when Jesse Oliver, who walked, later scored on a wild pitch, Hunter Thomas taking a bases-loaded walk for an RBI, and Colton West adding an RBI the hard way, forcing in a run after being hit by a pitch for the 3-0 lead after one.

Walks again aided Infiniti in the second as Justin Hall and Jonathan Brock both walked to start, with Hall scoring on a double steal and Brock making it 5-0 scoring on a wild pitch. After a Hunter Ferrell walk and courtesy runner Jackson Regan stealing second and third, Regan scored on Jesse Oliver’s infield single for the 6-0 game before Poyen put up a run in the bottom of the second and three in the third.

Oliver finished 1 for 1 with a run and RBI, while Kaleb Deno added the other hit for the Dirt Bags. Reed Gautreaux started on the mound giving up one run without a hit, walking two and striking out four in two innings.

It was a 1-1 game after one in the first contest before Benton put up a

6-spot in the second and never looked back. Infiniti led 7-3 after two innings before going up 11-3 after three and a half.

Ferrell finished 1 for

3 with three RBIS, Zack Gurrieri was 1 for 3 with two RBIS, and Hall and Logan Jones both had a hit, run and RBI in the win. Reece Rowland added a hit and two runs along with three stolen bases, while Thomas was 1 for 2 with a run. Regan added two RBIS without garnering a hit. Colton Stoops also had three stolen bases, scoring two runs.

Logan Bragg gave up a run on one hit without a walk, striking out five in three innings of relief, with Thomas striking out one in a perfect inning of relief.
