Church to offer food boxes

- By Elisha Morrison

For the second time, New Beginnings Apostolic Church is teaming up with the Go Fresh program from the US Department of Agriculture, to give away food to those in need.

The church, located at 407 Pricket Road in Bryant, will give out boxes of food from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. or until the food runs out, Saturday, according to Pastor Jim Whitley.

During the first food give away in March, the church gave out 2,400 boxes. Whitley hopes to give out that many in April.

“It is an entire semitruck full of food boxes,” Whitley said.

In March, they had one line of cars that stretched back. Whitley said they will do two lines in April to allow people to get through more quickly.

“It is our mission to seek and save the lost, to take care of the orphan and feed the hungry. We feel these are out call,” Whitley said. “There is a great need in our community.”

He added COVID-19 made that need worse.

The church connected with the program because it had connections with people involved with the program through the Arkansas Brotherhood of Christians.

“That is how we learned about the opportunity,” he said.

There are no income requirements to get a box. Whitley said no one will be turned away.

They will give the number of boxes based on the number of people living in a household.

The church is accepting volunteers to help give out the food. Anyone wishing to help can stop by the church. Whitley said the giveaway is a good time of fellowship while serving the community.
