John Alan Scates, 29, of Benton, passed away June 19, 2021.

He was born Feb. 10, 1992, in Pine Bluff, to Gerald Porter Scates, Jr. and Wanda (Mcelroy) Andrews.

John was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. His family meant the world to him and he enjoyed spending time with them. He and his wife Destini, shared an epic love. Together, they climbed many mountains of life by God's grace and strength from their sheer determinat­ion. John was an avid outdoorsma­n who lived to hunt and fish. He was a member of the Mcelroy Hunting Club. John was an adrenaline junkie who faced fear in the eye while riding bulls, wild donkeys and dirt bikes. He lived life to it's fullest with no regrets.

Preceding John in death are his father, Jerry Scates; grandparen­ts, Pete and Verda Mcelroy; and grandfathe­r, Cliff Mcelroy.

John leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife, Destini Scates ; two sons, John Alan “LJ” Scates and Joey Bailey Scates; daughter, Taegan Scates, all of Benton; mother and stepfather, Wanda (Scates) and Ken Andrews; brother, Petey Scates; sister, Brittany Mendoza, all of Little Rock; grandmothe­rs, Gene Gray, of Little Rock, and Emma Ryan, of Hot Springs; and many family members and friends who love John and will miss him always.

Visitation held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 22 at Smith-benton Funeral Home, 322 N. Market Street in Benton. Funeral service, officiated by Rev. Chris Kinzler, held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, June 23 at the funeral home.

In honor of John's recovery, memorials may be made any Drug Addiction agency. Services entrusted to Smith-benton Funeral Home.
