Discounts available during Library Card Sign Up Month

Along with the access to the variety of resources offered by the Saline County Library, during the month of September patrons can use their library card for discounts or freebies at 54 area businesses.

The library is celebrating Library Card Sign Up Month.

"September is like a holiday for libraries," said Community Engagement Manager Kari Lapp, adding different libraries celebrate it different ways.

Saline County Library has been partnering with local businesses to add extra value to the cards for the past six years. Lapp said she likes being able to promote the library and local businesses at the same time.

The goal of the month is to get more people in the community to take advantage of the many free resources the library has to offer from entertainment to online tutorials and more.

Lapp said because each business is unique, each offers a different discount or other promotion with the card.

"You would never think you'd get 10 percent off of a tattoo or piercing at Relics with your library card," Lapp said.

Other offers include discounts on pet services, discounts on local entertainment and discounts and freebies at local restaurants.

The monthlong event also has 13 sponsors. Lapp said most years the sponsors help cover the cost of printing to promote the month.

This year, the funds will go toward the creation of the new Nature Play Space at the Benton location to help with the cost of pavers and play features.
