The Benton Parks and Recreation Department is holding two art events to get people into the parks with a different type of program.

"We are trying to provide something for everybody to do," said Assistant Parks Director Daniel Baxley.

Art in the Park will be from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 18 at Owensmooney Park. If there is inclement weather, it will relocated to the Gene Moss Building at Tyndall

Park.

"It is an opportunity for parents to come out and engage with their kids and get creative," Baxley said.

It is geared towards parents and children ranging from age 3 to 12. Parents and children will be painting fall decor door hangers. All supplies will be provided and attendees will take their art home at the end of the event.

The cost is $25 per couple and $7 for each additional child. The deadline to register is Sept. 12.

Baxley encouraged participants to wear clothes they do not mind getting a little messy.

Parks also plans to hold an adults only paint event called Sip and Paint at 7 p.m. Oct. 1 for those age 21 and older.

Sip and Paint will be sponsored by DJ Motley State Farm.

Baxley said adults can create, drink and relax. The event will also feature wooden fall decor.

"It is an opportunity to get out and do something different," Baxley said.

Complimentary light appetizers and a selection of wine, beer and non-alcoholic beverages for purchase will be available from Bodiddle's Wine and Spirits.

Everyone registered for Sip and Paint will be entered into a drawing for a prize.

Attendees will be able to take home their creations.

The cost for Sip and Paint is $30 per person. Registration will be available through the day of the event.

Both events are being led by Erin at Southern Timber.

Registration for both art events is available online at http://apm.activecommunities.com/bentonrec.
