FAYETTEVILLE – The Arkansas baseball team overcame an early 4-1 deficit to defeat UNLV 13-7 on Tuesday night in Baumwalker Stadium, with the Hogs winning their ninth straight contest.

Dave Van Horn let several starters rest for much or all of Tuesday night’s game. Tavian Josenberger came off the bench, but Peyton Stovall, Brady Slavens and Caleb Cali didn’t play at all.

“These games make you a little nervous,” Van Horn said. “Coming off a threegame series and opening conference (this weekend). Got the opportunity to play some guys that haven’t played. Just felt like it was that time for them to play. They’ve been hanging in there. Mixing it up a little bit.”

Harold Coll started at second base and also played some at third. He delivered on offense with three hits, a pair of doubles, a home run and knocked in four runs. Coll came to Arkansas from San Jacinto Junior College in Texas.

UNLV took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. The Hogs tied in at 1 in the bottom of the second on a solo home run by Coll. UNLV responded with three runs in the top of the third.

Arkansas, trailing 4-2 entering the bottom of the fourth, plated five runs.

Coll started the inning off with a double. Then, with two outs, John Bolton walked, Kendall Diggs singled to plate Coll, then Jared Wegner singled to allow Bolton to score. Jace Bohrofen singled to get Diggs in. Jayson Jones then walked and that was followed by Reese Robinett’s single to score two more runs for a 7-4 lead.

Arkansas scored four more in the bottom of the sixth after UNLV pushed across a run in the top of the sixth. Bohrofen and

Coll each doubled in the inning for two runs batted in by each.

In the bottom of the eighth, Jones walked. Hunter Grimes then tripled to get Jones in. Coll grounded out to second, but it allowed Grimes to cross for a run.

The winning pitcher was Dylan Carter, who moved to 3-0 on the season. He worked 1.2 innings, allowing one hit and fanned one. Former Bryant standout Austin Ledbetter worked

2.2 innings, allowing four hits, three runs, walking one and striking out five. Former Batesville righthanded pitcher Gage Wood pitched the top of the ninth and walked one, but didn’t allow any runs or hits.

Nick Rupp (1-3) took the loss. He pitched 0.2 inning, allowing four hits, five runs, all earned, a walk, two strikeouts and faced seven batters.

Diggs had three hits, Bohrofen two as did Grimes. Robinett, Wegner and Jones each added one hit.

The two teams will play each other again on Wednesday, with the Hogs beginning SEC play with a three-game series vs. Auburn at Baum-walker in Fayetteville.
