Tip-a-cop returns Thursday at Red Robin
Tip-a-cop is back.
The annual event, which sees law enforcement officials working to raise funds for Special Olympics Arkansas, will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. at on Thursday at the Red Robin in Benton.
“Tip-a-cop is an event where cops act as waiters or waitresses,” said Brianna Himschoot, marketing and development coordinator. “The officers will work with someone who works there. They’ll work together.”
She added that the event will not hurt the regular wait staff, who will be on hand to assist the officers.
“We try to make sure that the waiters still get tips, too,” she said.
Special Olympics Arkansas provides opportunities for more than 19,500 athletes across the state. All funds raised during the Tip-a-cop event will go toward continued provision of free sports, health, and leadership activities for the athletes.
Himschoot said that there is no particular goal in mind, other than awareness and an opportunity to help the organization.
“It’s whatever we raise, we know that all of that will go to our athletes,” she said. “Anything to participate in our program.”
Sergeant Todd Crowson of the Benton Police Department said that it is an honor to take part in the gathering.
“We’ve done it several times. This is a super event to show them what the Special Olympics are,” he said. “It’s a great way for the community to give back.”
Himschoot said that law enforcement has long been a supporter of the Special Olympics.
Nearly 100 agencies and 1,500 officers work year-round to raise both money and awareness of the organization.
