Sharon Extension Homemakers hold May meeting

Sharon Extension Homemakers Club met May 16 at the Saline County Fairground­s.

In attendance were 10 members and one guest. Hostesses were Karen Mitchell and Beverly Garrett.

The meeting was opened by members reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag. President Patsy Wagner conducted the business session.

Thought for the month: Faith moves mountains, but you have you have to keep pushing while you are praying.

For the devotional Karen Mitchell read 1 Timothy: 6-17.

Roll call was answered by members telling their favorite holiday. Volunteer hours for April and May totaled 569. Patsy Wagner presented the program on food preservati­on. Topics discussed were Boiling water canning; Making jam; Pickling; Freezing; Drying; Pressure cooking. Cooking classes are continuing at the EHC office from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The charge for each class is $15 and you will have a finished product to take home. June 1 will be a class on making a soup mix. It’s time to be thinking about the Saline County Fair. June 11 EHC County members will be making pies. July 9 members will make dumplings and Aug. 13 will be the day to prepare the chickens.

The state meeting will take place June 4 to June 6 at the Windham in North Little Rock.

Doris Whitaker, Sylvia Nalley and Patsy Wagner will be recognized for 60 years of EHC membership. Saline County EHC and Sharon Club have been active for 83 years. Show and tell was displayed by the following members: Lynda Westbrook, beaded bracelet; Beverly Garrett, rope baskets; Sylvia Nalley, dog sweaters, scarves for Veterans, embroidere­d dish towel, garden flag; Patsy Wagner, Kleenex holder. A potluck luncheon was served.
