Luzerne to mark anniversary

-

LAKE LUZERNE — Several events and special activities are planned in Lake Luzerne in connection with this year’s celebration of Warren County’s bicentennial.

The first is a large mural project that will measure 92 feet by 7.5 feet when completed. Artist Sher Millis has been asked to create a panoramic painting of the actual Lake Luzerne, located on Lake Avenue.

The project will start with a class from Lake Luzerne Central School District’s Extended Learning Program. Classes will start May 13 and run from 2: 40 to 4:15 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Residents are invited to participate when school classes are completed in June.

This mural is the fourth in a series of community revitalization murals created by Millis. A slideshow of the mural’s progress can be followed on her website at www. shermillismurals.com. For information, contact Millis at 696-6122.

Lake Luzerne is also hosting a History Weekend event featuring re- enactors and storytellers from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 27.

Colonial re-enactors will create a living encampment as they teach the tools, tricks and trades of that time. Also, Darren Bonaparte from the Akwasasne area in northern New York will engage the public with Native American storytelling.

Plus, a Civil War signature quilt will be displayed at the Harmon House waterfront lawn.

For information about this program, call Linda Mason at 696-2711, ext. 2.

Lake Luzerne’s colorful dude ranch history will be celebrated that day, too, with a “Ranches, Rodeos and Wranglers” trail that leads visitors to different local sites.

The event is open to the public and will include living history interviews, storytelling, a photo collection, cowboy book vendors, awards, dinner, dancing and guest speakers.

In addition, the Harmon House, Kinnear Museum, Gailey School House and Pagenstecher Pulp Mill will be open for tours.

For information, call Pam Morin at 696-7184 or Cindy Cameron at 696-2838.
